Thanks for the info, I'll look them up and see what they have for AR10's. So where are you living now?

Hey DL, just to let you know...I recently built a new AR-10 from an Armalite upper/lower as well. I ordered the 308 mags from Magpul, and they will not fit into an Armalite gun. They make those mags primarily for the SR-25/ M-110 weapons system, and as of a few months ago they do not offer a mag that will fit an Armalite...It's a real shame, because I have also used the AR-15 mags and I love them.

Mag-Pul, if you're listening...hint, hint.

The factory Armalite mags are really pretty good, and if you go straight to their website, they offer them in bundle packages at a discount. They are a little pricey, but I have not had any issues with them as of yet and I've put a lot of rounds through them.

Best of luck, and if you find an economical alternative out there, please post it here for the rest of us.

They'll also fit LMT, LaRue, Remington, DPMS and Bushmaster .308 ARs; not sure about RRA, but I'm leaning toward "no."

Armalite mags expensive? True, relatively. But they're well made and I don't mind paying a little more for a quality piece of kit that won't shiite the bunk on me when I need it most. It could be worse...Anyone see the prices FNH wants for a Mk17 mag?

In addition to wanting Magpul to make an Armalite version of their mag, I'd also like to see Checkmate step up to the plate and make a more affordable Armalite mag as well. FYI, Checkmate makes a really good 20 rnd M1A/M14 mag for a fraction of what SAI wants for theirs. Since the Armalite mag is based on the M14 mag, it would be my hope that Checkmate could produce a version of it at a similarly low price point.

I started having problems with the magazines not locking into place on my AR-15, so that is when I went with the ones from Magpul never had any more trouble with it since. I am not really sure what all is different on the Armalite and the Rock Rivers but these mags may not work on them would have to check to see.

Hi everyone. I am new to the AR-10 but have been around shooting and reloading for quite some time.

I bought an AR-10 as a deer hunting rifle. I liked the idea of fast follow-up shots combined with nearly the power of my .30-06. Although I could have satisfied my basic need with a Browning BAR in .308, I like the modularity and versatility that the AR-10 affords.

I am a member of other forums where I am among the more knowledgeable members, so I understand the frustration that can come from newbies asking obvious questions that they could have answered with a little research. As a newbie here(and-more importantly-a newbie to the AR-10), I'll do my best to figure it out on my own before floating a simple question. Once I have a good grasp of a subject, combined with some experience, I will make strong arguments in favor of my positions. But I know when to sit back and listen to those with more experience than me.

My AR-10 is a DPMS Panther LR-308, but I ordered it with an A3 receiver, meaning that it does have the dust cover, shell deflector, and forward assist. As a left-hander, I needed the shell deflector. I also thought that the forward assist might come in handy. I put a Trijicon 2.5-10 x 56mm on it, using a Rock River Arms 1-piece mount. Weighing in at 14 pounds, I won't be using it for hunting while walking through the woods. I am a stand hunter, so the weight won't be a problem.

My AR-10 is definitely a work in progress. A couple of my goals for the gun are to tighten up its accuracy, and cook up a handload that takes full advantage of the 24" barrel.

I look forward to participating!

Welcome welcome! Nice to see another DPMS LR-308 owner here B). You will really love the accuracy of the rifle. Granted the initial break-in of the barrel is a little monotonous but once you get that done they are awesome. Not sure on the exact number of bullets you are supposed to put through it to start, but I ran 20 single rounds through mine then groups of 10 after that to get to the 100 rounds. I have heard people say to go 10 single then groups of 25 but I didn't see any harm going the route of some extra cleaning to be on the safe side.
