I like the salt water one. Water in South Africa though, even purified with the plastic bottle, doesn't seem too appealing. For river water around my area though, sure no problem...

I got Amoebic dysentery TWICE in my life while abroad and WOW do I not want that again... :sick:

Long term survival: if you think you may have to grow your own food at some point, be sure to buy heirloom seeds. Hybrid seeds do not produce viable seeds themselves so they cannot be replanted and sprout the following year. After one crop, you are SOL.

:I-agree:
The main reason to keep a garden going from year to year. If your time is worth anything you can still buy most foods for what it takes to grow and process them. Only problem is that can of beans you saved will not sprout in the spring!
The land is our primary prepping angle here, I'm not going anywhere, been there and came back to stay!

Funny you should mention, Monday I picked up my side of beef from the butcher. One advantage of living in the country. $2.50 a pound, butchered and wrapped for half a cow.
