Around here the year after a fire we get both white and black truffles in the burned over area. Tastes as good as they say. Can make some nice pocket change as well. Ticks a problem here as well especially deer ticks and Lyme disease.

I live where I work. I am the facilities director for a prestigious all girls boarding school. www.stt.org

My commute to work can be 3 minutes if I walk the long way to my office or 21 seconds if I drive the 120 yards to my office. It has its advantages but it also means I'm always at work.

In addition to the daily building and grounds maintenance we have lots of construction going on. In the past 4 years we have constructed $14M in new buildings and renovations.

Living in Maryland has its draw backs as they hate the 2nd amendment and believe that only people who have been shot twice and lived should have CCW permits. The taxes are incredible, both sales and property. They have introduced things like the beverage tax in the city and now a new rain tax -- They are going to tax all impervious area on a property.

We have good shopping and dining and pay rates are good. Interestingly the state is very conservative with the exception of the two population masses around Baltimore and Washington DC. If you get 2 miles outside of the city everyone votes Republican; however, elections are won by democrats by a huge margin.

I have a picturesque 144 acres outside my back door. Lots of wildlife thought hunting around students makes things a bit tricky. Had some great bucks coming around in July but they've been scarce since mid-August. Hoping to catch one on the bait pile once the rut starts and it cools down.

Strongly considering moving to a place like TN, Kentucky, or Carolina. Although west TX doesn't seem too much out of the picture either. I just need to be able to buy whatever guns I want to buy and hunt deer and ducks and life will be good.

I don't live in wilderness, but it is pretty close. I have an eagles nest 200 feet from my house, Lake trout, Brown Trout, Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Walleye, Small Mouth Bass and Northern fishing right out my front door. My deer stand is a thousand feet behind my house, for either bow or rifle. Lots of grouse, some wild turkeys as well. Coyotes, bobcats, wolves, porcupines, mink, fishers and otters all cross my yard now and then. As well as red and grey fox. Winters are cold, taxes are bad in Northern Wisconsin, and the southern part of the state has all the political power and ignores the rest of us. I am pretty lucky, but the older I get the tougher it is to deal with winter. I am just finishing laying up 12 cords of wood for my primary heat this winter, propane is my back up. That's logging cords, not face cords, by the way. Coming off carpal tunnel surgery 5 weeks ago, it has been a tougher chore than usual. I like my life and where I live, but probably will move into an easier situation in about five years. Till then, I am enjoying the heck out of it.

I've been living in a hotel near the Shawnee National Forrest for the last couple months. The leaves are starting to fall and the snakes are migrating, I see a half dozen or so coming out of the hills every day now at work.
Next week I'll be back in Iowa for a weeks leave, sounds like I'll have lots of fall cleanup work to do there. I also plan on getting re-acquainted with my AR-10, she hasn't been shot since the end of June!
My next job site should be on the gulf coast of Mississippi for the winter months, should be a decent place to hang out for the winter. Living out of a hotel is not ideal circumstances but so far I've been finding nice ranges to keep the little off time I have occupied. I'm sure I'll pick up something new to shoot when I visit my LGS at home next week, still waiting to hear when that Armalite SPR Mod 1 will be available so it might be a Sig P516 after all.
It's hard to choose what part of my arsenal will come with me on the road, regrettably the 10 with all the extras required just doesn't fit well in the car, might be a good excuse to get that carbine upper, maybe if I spend my stash then that mod 1 will be available soon! :usa:

Here on the IL/WI border we are 3 weeks behind on the 1st frost of the year, pulled most of our tomato plants last Saturday, and going to try out an elevated "cold frame" to keep us in fresh greens until January.

Unfortunately, sitting right on the Hwy 39/51 NAFTA highway, heroin has become more king than ever. Next door neighbor's house (OLLLD farmers) could not get a starting bid of $40K at auction, local realtor bought it and flipped it to a pill/heroin couple with a pair of pit bulls. Oh joy.

Fortunately, Madison is close enough to see shows like we saw last night: Tedeschi Trucks w/Congress. 3 hours of great music.

Did I misspell it? Yup, man what a voice! 12 piece "Derek Trucks Band" (her husband) backin her up with horns, vocals, keyboards, it was explosive crazy. They have a great sound team at the Overture Center.

Naw I misspelled it. I saw her years ago at the Duluth Blues festival. Got a few of her CD's. Did not know her husband was now backing her.
