Yup, we're listed as near bottom for being pounded by the DOR: #49, while Iowa is only #41...

The tax system is brutal in Wisconsin. I am considering becoming a Minnesota resident, but I don't trust their legislature.[/quote]

Far north WI is a nice place to live, if you don't mind that I am still looking at ice on the lake and we get absolutely nothing for our taxes up here. When I was Town Chair, we ran this town on $300,000 a year. Most the property taxes went to the school board, Technical college, and county. Left the Town about 4% of the property taxes collected. This state and county waste so much money its ridiculous. The only good news is with Republicans running things we don't have to worry for a while that they will try to pull a Colorado or New York on us.

We're in S. WI, right on the NAFTA Hwy/Heroin corridor of I-39/51. The conditions have gotten so bad we cannot sell the house for more than $40K, even though it is "assessed" at $110K.

Getting ready to do a work transfer to get out, and either going to the Iowa side of the Mighty Miss. or way up north in WI. Leaning to Iowa as their tax systems are significantly lower than WI's....anybody here in NE Iowa got some input?

Being from western Iowa I see the eastern half of the state as the "liberal" half due to having more "cities" but we all share the same somewhat low taxes, there working on a property tax decrease right now. The Dems have the senate alone to push the spending issues. All the gun bills to go anywhere have been pro-2nd. Downside for me is a law that makes any military type training in an organized civilian group, like a Militia, a felony. There was some talk of changing the law but that dried up last December. Iowa seems determined not to go the way of Illinois and the rest when it comes to pensions and benefits for public workers. They are a little out of balance now but there is a good group of people working on getting back to the large reserves we once maintained..........

I worked an interstate highway rehab project in Wisconsin once for a couple weeks. They literally had an inspector present for every part of the process, a supervisor to organize all of them, and another inspector who was there to inspect the inspectors............in Arkansas I had to call the day before if I needed somebody from the state on the job, I was responsible for a correctly engineered product and nobody babysat me, they just didn't pay if it wasn't right.
When I filed taxes that year Wisconsin wanted $1,200 of the $2,600 gross I made there  they were taxing my wife because we filed jointly  :S :pinch: :banghead: way to spur economic development!
I told the tax lady to throw those forms away and have not went back there since!

Wisconsin loses a lot of revenue because of their attitudes. They also lag behind economically because of it. The state government has become a welfare program in itself, they have so many extra employees and extra regulations. County government is the same. If I move that will be why. Has some nice gun ranges though.

I did notice most government employees wanted off by 3:30 so they had time for one sport or another, very outdoors oriented with all the hiking and biking trails between parks so some of the taxes are well spent........I doubt the state intended the short work days though.
I'm afraid I'll get a ticket and find out there is a warrant for not paying the extortion, or ah, taxes, requested if I go there again.
