AR stands for ARmaLite. They made a shot gun, which of course is not a Rifle. The "R" does not stand for anything else except for the second letter in ARmaLite. (Period)

your .275 will work. It's .255 to the very edge of the gas hole to the shoulder.

But I called my buddy at the GPD and this is what's been going on.

Mon(5th)=off, tues=packing, wed=leav for perry, thurs to today 2 people in the office to answer hundreds of phone calls and place orders.

So you tell me, when do you think that your question made it that important to drop everything and answer a question for a guy that is to impatient to do it himself?

I need help ASAP. I'm replacing the factory gas block on my 10t with a Larue low profile gas block. I need to know whether the spacing from the back of the black to the center of the port is .3" of .275". Apparently Larue has no idea, and Armalite won't return my phone calls. Thanks!

Here's the Larue wabsite...it might help clear up what I'm asking:

I'm sorry to hear about your gas block dilemma. Ordinarily, we here at ArmaLite strive to answer such questions quickly by being available on the phones or by taking part on the various forums. Unfortunately, nearly EVERYBODY is at Camp Perry this week. The one tech-guy we left behind to answer calls and watch the forums had to leave this morning and won't be back until tomorrow (Thursday July 15th.) I am decidedly NOT a tech guy. Sorry. I will show your question to our tech-guy tomorrow morning. Until then, I KNOW the guys here on ar10t.com will offer all the help they can.

WOW... your real fast to place blame. Obvious you didn't hear or read that ArmaLite is at limited staff due to running a store at Camp Perry too.

But to answer your question, from the shoulder on the barrel to the edge of the gas port is .255.

Not really trying to place blame, just getting frustrated. I've been looking for this answer from several sources for over a week. I left messages for Armalite staff early last week, before they were at Perry.

Thank you for your help. So would that be another .02" to the center, or .045"? I'm sorry, I have no way of measuring to the nearest .025", but I do have a set of calipers in the mail. I'm just that impatient. Once again, I thank you for the best answer I've gotten in 10 days.

Actually, we left for Camp Perry early last week. It takes a week to set up the store and everything else so we can be ready for opening day. After we close the store on August 16th, it will take four days to tear down the store and drive home.

Actually, the "R" stands for neither rifle nor research. The combined AR stands for ArmaLite. Here's a link to the history of ArmaLite on our web site. It answers a lot of questions people have about the company.
