I've been reading some of this guys work lately, a 13th century Persian mystic named Rumi for short;
“If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?”
― Rumi
“Sit, be still, and listen,
because you're drunk
and we're at
the edge of the roof.”
― Rumi
“Two there are who are never satisfied -- the lover of the world and the lover of knowledge.”
― Rumi, مثنوی معنوی
“I have lived on the lip
of insanity, wanting to know reasons,
knocking on a door. It opens.
I've been knocking from the inside.”
― Rumi
“Take someone who doesn't keep score,
who's not looking to be richer, or afraid of losing,
who has not the slightest interest even
in his own personality: he's free.”
― Rumi
“The ground's generosity takes in our compost and grows beauty! Try to be more like the ground.”
― Rumi
“Keep walking, though there's no place to get to.
Don't try to see through the distances.
That's not for human beings. Move within,
But don't move the way fear makes you move.”
― Rumi
“You are the Truth from foot to brow. Now, what else would you like to know?”
― Rumi
“If in the darkness of ignorance, you don’t recognize a person’s true nature, look to see whom he has chosen for his leader.”
― Rumi
“You and I have spoken all these words, but for the way we have to go,words are no preparation. I have one small drop of knowing in my soul. Let it dissolve in your ocean”
― Rumi
and that would seem a good place to end with Rumi, for now.

He who knows how to guide a ruler in the path of Tao
Does not try to over-ride the world with force of arms.

It is the nature of a military weapon to turn against it's wielder.

Wherever armies are stationed, thorny bushes grow.

After a great war
bad years invariably follow.

What you want, is to protect efficiently your own state,
But not to aim at self-aggrandisement.

After you have attained your purpose,
You must not parade your success,
You must not boast your ability,
You must not feel proud,
You must rather regret that you had not been able to prevent the war.

You must never think of conquering others by force.

For to be over-developed is to hasten decay,
and this is against Tao,
and what is against Tao, will soon cease to be.

Lao Tzu (from about 2,200 years ago give or take)

"Bury the hatchet but don't forget where"

"From inside fortifications, the gun has no equal among weapons. It is the supreme weapon on the field before the ranks clash, but once swords are crossed the gun becomes inadequate."

Chaos offers continual openings to one who can perceive a deeper order.

The fight is chaotic yet one is not subject to chaos.

To be invisible, you must first be so orthodox, that nothing remains to give you away.
Then, you must be so extraordinary that no one can predict your location or purpose.

Close. Sun Tzu. I love Lao though. Good call.

I have the Denma Translation which, according to the Denma Group, has taken as much from what was left of the original bamboo scrolls as could be taken as they translated their version of The Art of War.

I think I've read 4 or 5 translations and this one is my favorite.

I do have the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu though. It's great stuff...

"If Obama gets re-elected America will suffer irreparable damage, we will fall from being a world class power, economically and militarily. We will be unable to repair our country, as we have known it since WWII. It will be a social disaster the likes which have never been seen on this soil in our history to include the days of slavery. You will neither know nor recognize our government. The face of government will change and our Constitution will lose its validity as the compass on which we have guided. A total lack of transparency will exist, propaganda will be the media of the day and you will no longer enjoy or have access to the basic inalienable rights."
