Federal Job process

Trust me, its a lifetime gig. Nothing you can do short of a major felony that will affect you:

John. I know personally and have since he was 15. John was a senior CS, a Director, making big money. He was also living well beyond his means and some folks smelled something. John was stealing US Govt property and selling it. A major deal was made of this, he made the paper and the news. He got fired, no retirement, no nothing and barely avoided going to jail. Then like most news stories it faded away. And when it did the Union stepped in, John retired at full pay and benefits and it was even backdated to when he was fired so he got back pay, he also got a $25,000 bonus for retiring EARLY!

Or Mr Jones. He worked for me, came in a 7 am sharp every morning, left at 8:15, came back at 3:45, left promptly at 5 pm, 5 days a week. He was a senior civil servant. He retired, full pay, $25,000 bonus, full benefits and he RETIRED from the Norfolk Independent School District where he was employed FULL TIME as a teacher! Yes he held down 2 full time day jobs. Why was he not stopped? He taught at a 'historically black school'.

I have no shortage of stories as above.

Maybe, just maybe, I will be reporting in on Monday! I was beginning to think I was going to be blown off another month but the call today said to expect details tomorrow( :( i just realized.... that is always a day away)

Funny that every bit of information that has caused a "delay" along the way was made available either before or the day of my interview.
Still nothing sure about where I'm going, Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Illinois have all been mentioned as possibilities..........
This patience stuff is hard, I'm used to taking charge and doing what I can to make things happen.........I've got to give something like meditation a serious look, I can't chance ruffling any feathers till I get the probationary period over....Ohmmmmmm.....Ohmmmmmmmmm.....Ohmmmmmmmm

I just took a picture of myself and emailed it to them for a "temporary" ID. In the confirmation email she mentioned sending the ID to Tennessee........
We shall see........

It sure sounds like I'm employed........
promise I will not be the ordinary government employee :usa:

Let me provide a note of caution: I worked in CS 3 times. Not sure why?? Watch your office, work like they work, if they walk away from the Xerox machine as its spitting out a 500 page doc just because it 5 pm, suggest you do same. If they drink coffee and read the paper (cover to cover) every morning BEFORE they will answer the fone or look at e mail...there's your sign!

If you the other hand you boss is on a dead run and comes in on Sat and even Sun to insure the 500 page doc is ready for mail on monday the you do too. But don't be a fireball if they aren't you will gain more ill will than you can imagine.

"Don, we need to talk about why you work so hard here?"

"Don, we like to see the office shut down at lunch, no need for to remain in the office!"

"Don, if I need someone to work past duty hours or on weekends I will let you know!"

"Don, this is a relaxed office, you need to cool your jets if you want to get along here!"

JT, I had a GS 12 who worked for me and also worked FULL TIME as a school teacher. He just headed out the door at 0745 and came back at 3:30, left at 5. We had one guy, that came to work every day and brought a sleeping bag and air mattress with him along with a pillow. He set up in the mens room against the far wall and slept every day, he too had a full time job at night.

Ft Monroe, winter of '86, post shut down, Pentagon shut down for ALL except military. My boss a GM 14 did not come to work for 2 weeks, 'snowed in', one GS 13 did not make it in for 7 working days...he lived NEXT door to me, I drove in every day, no problems at all.

I have a ton of stories like this.

In 2012 .4% of the Federal CS workers were FIRED! In 2009 fiscal year, 11,275, out of 2 million employees and layoffs are almost non-existant.

Just be cautious when you start out, be a good reliable go along with the office program...

Everything was packed, the oil changed, literally days of preparation for my June 17th start date.........My file was sent from HQ to the agency with the job yesterday.....no more June 17th, now the 30th will be the soonest I could start........
The new HR contact said she had everything except an offer letter, asked me if I had seen one.....asked me what the job title was and what grade I was starting at(almost said 15).... Hell, she even asked if I still wanted the job.......anyone that could make any decisions was already out of the office for the weekend......Ohmmmmmm.....Ohmmmmmmmmm.......Ohmmmmmmmm.....OHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..
:censored: Is this some kind of test to see if I'll fit the constipated and confused government culture????????? My cheek hurts from biting it while they talk.......
