My simple fix will install a new bushing inside the legs.

If you remove a foot and peer inside you'll see an aluminum disc, bolted through the center, attached to the bottom of the inner leg. This "bushing" is the culprit. I haven't popped it out yet so I don't know what thickness I'm looking at.

The new bushing will be acetal rod...Delrin. Thickness to be determined.

Correction, it's a one piece fitting.

What I thought was a bolt turns out to be an allen head, flush, in the button itself with an undetermined thread on the other side.
They locked it in pretty good.

Total axial clearance from the inner leg to the collapsed outer leg is roughly .29" with the button taking up about 1/8" of that. It has a groove around its circumference that contains a thin 0-ring. If this o-ring were thicker I would've never noticed a slop issue.
I wonder if the grease they used to lube the o-ring shrank it.

Still planning on a Delrin solution...

Ha, seriously? PM me if you'd like to discuss it.

This is what I had in mind...
I doubt a Dwg is even necessary. It couldn't be much simpler for someone with machining tools/skills.

The Atlas' outer leg's inner diameter is exactly .500".
(Would you happen to have any, or reasonably quick access to, Delrin/acetal rod in .500" diameter?)
What I need is a center hole through two <1/4" thick discs off the rod and a flat-bottom countersink for each hole.

I'm checkin' out fasteners tomorrow to determine the diameter of the center hole of the disc for the threads and the depth/diameter for the countersink.

A little Loctite and it's done.
Well, I may need to address the +/-.005" finish tolerance of the Delrin rod. It machines like brass, so shouldn't be a problem for a guy with a sheet of sandpaper. ;)
I'm also thinkin' of beveling the upper/lower edges of the discs and cutting a few drainage channels.

That's it.

Good gawd, Atlas made it difficult to make modifications.

The threads in the inner leg are 12-24 and there's only .29" of headspace to play with.

Socket(Allan) heads are 1/4" tall.
I want to stay away from Phillips/Slotted heads.
I can't find button heads in 12-24.
Low profile socket heads are metric only, or not in 12-24...at least not that I've found.

I don't think I want to go to undercut heads because I fear they will expand the bushing...it might be the only reasonable course.

Cutting the inner leg fractionally shorter, while doable, is not what I consider reasonable and takes this mod out of an easy "bolt-on" category.
:banghead:

One last headache, the bushing Atlas uses appears to be made of stainless, so I had been looking for stainless fasteners. I just now realized it's a bad combo in the unprotected aluminum threads of the inner leg.

Now I get to start over. FML.

Funfred, after you get done you are gonna have to start manufacturing an improved model. It is pretty apparent you know what you are talking about.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I'm trying to get it right the first time. Thankfully, Akai has volunteered his skills.
(I suspect I'm gonna twist his arm with offerings of cash or imbibements for more than a one-off production).

Good thing I started over. More detailed measuring shows only .250" of space to work with...

I don't know about a business endeavor. The minimum amount of availably resourced material could result in a production run of twelve kits or more. There's certainly money to be had if I can sell to the BT10 crowd but machinists don't come cheap.

At any rate, I intend to offer* a kit to any board member owning a BT10 while supplies last. First come, first serve - after I confirm the kit's proper function.

Considering I'm still waiting to put my gun together (and the honey-do list that I've been reminded of) while chasing this idea, I'm over any current disappointments and holding my expectations high.

*Not sure what the total costs will be but I'm thinkin' free to our members is a good start.

Thank you. Chompin' at the bit to break her in...

Ya know, AL sent the barrel to my neighbor? They musta been sufferin' dyslexia when they mounted the quad rail AND when they were returning it. They got my house number backwards.
