I pulled the trigger, so to speak, on a Sig 716

Took her for a spin at the range this morning. Shot 60 rounds through it with no hiccup what so ever. I shot 20 150gr Federal power shok soft points in a pmag gen 3 magazine, 20 rounds 147gr Winchester 7.63x51 fmj through a pmag gen 2 magazine, and 20 rounds of 150gr hand loaded fmj through a gen 3 mag as well. All fed and ejected well. One mag I did rapid fire. No scratched up or gouged cases that I could find. I did clean the rifle well and oiled it liberally. I only shot at 25yds, but accuracy was good. Noticed the cases ejected sorta downward. Had, I would say, medium recoil. Not bad though. Might try a different muzzle brake soon and see if it helps. I'll post a few pics to show different parts after 60 rounds. I thought it was pretty clean. Overall, I would give it an A+. There was nothing dissapointing about this rifle.

Thanks Tow, I see a little carbon on the piston, but that is to be expected. Question: What does Sig say about lubricating the piston? I am curious because I heard somewhere that lubricants can get baked onto the piston and be tough to get off, so a number of shooters shy away from that.

I don't remember seeing that in the manual, as I wondered that myself. I lubed it, but did notice it was kinda caked on. I'll have to do a little more research on it.

I did go back through the manual. It did say lightly oil the valve body, pushrod, and spring. I guess i will have to do a little more scrubbing.
