I pulled the trigger, so to speak, on a Sig 716

I know you probably already know this but make sure you clean the bolt and carrier really well before you try to shoot it.
Sig uses some really gunky grease inside the carrier and it can cause some problems.
Also you will want to pull the spring and buffer out and clean them as well as inside the buffer tube.
My buffer tube and the spring was full of that same gunky grease.
One last thing if you reload for it you may want to invest in a small base die set.
I think Sig's are chambered a little tight mine won't completely chamber anything that isn't Small base sized.
I will be not so patiently waiting on a range report.

Thanks for the advice. I usually clean a new weapon pre-range anyways, but I would not have thought to check the buffer tube. I don't reload, but I have alot of federal 150gr soft points left from another rifle I sold. Any idea if the Sig will have a problem with these? Thanks everyone for the replies and advice.

I hope it doesn't give you any problems with those but I can't tell you for sure.
For the first 100 rounds or so mine was picky about what factory loads it wanted to function with.
If they don't function at first give it a few rounds to break in and it should eat about any thing you feed it.

Small base dies are pretty much necessary for any autoloader, especially if they were fired originally in another rifle.

I know what you are saying Siscowet but I have been loading for AR-15s for years and have never had to use SB dies.
My recently purchased AR-10 feeds and functions flawlessly when the brass is FL sized.
I have always heard that SB dies were necessary but in my particular case other than my 716 that has proven not to be the case

FL dies have worked fine in my AR-10 as well. I've been told I'll get more life out of the brass if I don't have to use the SB dies. It's a bit easier to size as well! My biggest issue has been deformed rims, I haven't heard of a method to fix that yet except better quality brass.

I'm looking forward to hearing about that 716. I've got 2 Sigs, my 938 is a jam queen but my PM400 has been flawless with whatever I feed it. :usa:

Wouldn't doubt it. And as long as it works don't change it. If I was using range brass I would still want to use SB dies, but if the brass is coming out of your firearm there shouldn't be a problem. I look forward to hearing more about the Sigs as well. Especially accuracy.

For what it's worth, the small base dies are really only necessary if you don't know what rifle the brass is going to be used in next. That is, if you only use one batch of brass to reload for your AR10 and never shoot that brass in anything else, regular full length sizing will do the trick.

Towgunner: I hope that your rife shoots well. :)

After a long wait, I was called today, by my ffl, to let me know my rifle had finally come in. Hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow. Gonna try and shoot it this weekend. I will do a very amateur range report and take pics. Have some Federal soft points, hand loaded fmj's, and some steel cased wolf I will be using. Also will be using two types of p-mags. Can't wait. Feel like a kid at Christmas!

Hope you get a shooter! I've been watching a thread on SigTalk about 716's, some guys have them rolling right out of the box and some need an extended break in period before they become reliable. Evidently their specs are pretty tight. If you have issues Sig does seem to make it right for everyone, hope you avoid the hassle though :usa:

Well, here she is. I picked her up and had to go straight to work, so I didn't get a chance to fondle her. I took a quick pic, that was it. My initial observation is that the quality is top notch. Everything fits great, and is fluid. Definately has some weight to it, but doesn't seem as heavy as my Socom16. Seems just right. Came with a pmag, nice cleaning kit, sling, and some other items. Overall, impresed so far. I will get her cleaned up tomorrow and hopefully get some range time.
