All comments welcome and please help me make a decision that will justify the butt chewing my old lady is sure to give me for bringing yet another gun in to this house.
Wes,
Use the search function. There has been a lot of discussion on this website about the 243 erroding the throat rapidly. I grew up hunting with the 243 and took many deer, antelope, prairie dogs, etc. with a Savage 110. Do a search before you commit. Do you have a .308?
Jer
No 308 so far but i was going 243 first for the all around use of it, if you could link me to any post that has good pics or hard facts on the 243 ware out issue it would be a grate help to me man.
@ donkey1984: sure thing on the updates man, i would really like to see some hard info and facts about the gun as all i seem to find is here say type stuff.
The 243 will be my hunting upper and i do want a 308 upper at some point which will keep the round count down on the 243 but so far i have found no pics or real proof that X amount of rounds is what i will get from the 243 and X amount from a 308.
If you read this thread and know of a good post about 243 barrel wear PLEASE link me to it.

We have DOZENS of the .243 upper in stock right now. American Rifleman e-blasted this article about of .243 this morning:

The fact that the 243 uppers are always in stock when i check makes me think it is a very under appreciated caliber but this will not detour me from my decision to pick one up, thanks for the heads up on the article and rest assure i am a sale waiting to happen.
For more reading, do a seach on .308 vs .260 vs .243 vs 7mm-08.
There are lots of great rounds out there will do whatever your needs are. Obviously the faster the bullet goes, the faster the barrel will wear out. Now even if the fastest round (.243) burns a barrel out in say 2000 rounds. How long is it going to take you to shoot 2000 rounds? If this is a hunting gun, I would say never. If this is a competition gun, I'd say barrel replacement is the least of your costs. Pick the round that suits you best and worry about the cost of replacement later.
