I thought about this too. In my view the B model will gain collector status. While there are advantages to the A model regarding standardization the B model mags will feed longer ammo and at least in my view the Gen II B series mags are very reliable.

I'm still trying to make sense out of the AR-31????
Why release a new rifle with magazine compatibility as a main selling point then discontinue the primary rifle for that mag?????
Are they just creating a way to clear out the extra stock left or was not putting it in the catalog just fluke?????
The model A is SR25/DPMS version right or am I wrong. I B model uses Armalite mags but do things like bcg's and barrels interchange. Oops forget small parts like firing pin and springs too.
Good question I know the lower reciever is different, and I think the upper reciever is too, as Armalite only sells AR10B upper recievers, and no A upper recievers on their web site. Beyond that I can't say on the other parts. I do know CDNN is having a huge discount sale on the B models at the website below:
www.cdnnsports.com/firearms.html
They are also having a sale on M15 5.56 models and AR30 models. They are good deals whatever the reason.
Well now, all of this talk got Me to thinking, just what do I have ????
I went to the attic and got the box.
The label says "Eagle Arms AR10 Service Rifle" then "AR10A2BM" along with a yellow round tag that I had not noticed before, inside the circle is wrote with a pen "CMP".
So, it would seem that this rifle had been passed through the CMP and then sold to Me by the original purchaser, from CMP.
The rifle is very clean and is a very nice shooter.
Also, I would guess that with the "A" in the model number that it would be a type A rifle.
Well, whatever it is, I suppose I should be for purchasing some spare parts for it,
Does anyone have a meaning fr all of the letters in the model numbers ???
Such as the "A2BM".

Email Armalite with the info. I'm pretty sure they could give you the lowdown on your rifle.
Thank You Sisco and LebbenB. I will email Armalite and see what I can get for the history of this rifle.
YUP, the mags from My M1A fits right in it. No bolt hold open capability though.
I have thought about disassembling the M1A mags and die grinding the hole in them, just to make the mags fully compatible, one to the other.
