Glad you are working it out Keefer. You're a good egg.
(ps. If it needs penicillin too, then wow, you've DEFINITELY been shooting in ALL the wrong places... ) ok - I think it's out of my system now...
Let us know if they go away or not! We do have to also remember that these rifles are Mil-spec not safe queens. Believe me they do not have the same finish that some of my collector weapons. If your still not happy with the outcome maybe we can come up with some other solutions. Anyhow it's still one fine looking rifle

Agreed on the finish but I would think that being milspec would allow for a bit more leeway no? Since they aren't MADE to be gorgeous, I say just oil em up and let the "milspec" shine through.
I thought that was one of the reasons we all bought em??
Just a thought. I mean, they ain't MADE to be pretty. They're made to be badass and badass ain't always a pretty thing...

Keefer T wrote: Thanks guys! I hope you are right. I wiped the entire receiver down with a fairly heavy coat of Hoppes gun oil this morning and let it soak all day. I just wiped off what was left and it looked good. Time will tell. It may take a few more treatments.
Who knows, maybe Hoppes has a little penicillin in it - lol
Continue the Treatments and also Gently Rub it in when applying it...This helps to get it to Penetrate into the surface...

Well, you guys were right! It's been a while now and I've had the rifle out a couple of times, took it the range once, cleaned it, etc... No signs of the splotches. The Remoil I had been using to rub down the exterior was undoubtedly too thin and evaporated away too quickly. The Hoppes Gun Oil was the cure!
