HellCat V8The supercharged 6.2 Hemi has been shown, and has 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This engine, used only by SRT, will be available alongside the 6.4 Hemi in the 2015 Charger, 2015 Challenger, and possibly a new SRT Ram 1500. New: Specifications and details later in this page.
The 6.2 liter displacement was caused by a reduction in stroke from the 392; the stroke was reduced to increase the strength of the camshaft, according to SRT powertrain chief Chris Cowland. It will not, despite early rumors, have MDS / cylinder shutoff.
It will be hooked up to a manual transmission in Dodge Challenger, and an eight-speed automatic in Challenger and Charger; the 8HP90 can handle up to 663 lb-ft.
Mike wrote that Hellcat-equipped SRT8s will have two power modes, which he described as “ street and kill. I believe the street mode is just a little more powerful than the normal SRT. Kill mode, as I call it, is just clinically insane.” Dodge’s press release has the two modes activated by choosing one’s key fob: the black fob limits the engine to 500 hp, while the red one taps the engine’s full potential of 707 horsepower.

“fargo59” wrote that it shares heads with the Apache SRT 6.4 Hemi engine. “A 6.4 with a forged 5.7 crankshaft would give the right dimensions and be relatively easy to work; a shorter stroke is also going to give the ideal rod to stroke ratio and make it a high revving engine.” Cams are also reportedly similar to the 6.4 design; the block is said to be identical. (The block is the same, cast iron for strength.)
It is still a big heavy car, and will likely be slower than the competition. It's just like loading a cartridge without the desire for terminal impact.
No matter how you look at it, that is a lot of HP being thrown down, not sure what the car may weigh. I would sure like to see the HP/T curve chart on this engine. 707 HP/650 Torque. Looks like the new Z06 if going to be 650/650. Generally speaking the closer the HP/T final numbers the closer the curves are and that is good.
Did I ever tell you I LOVE horsepower? :twothumbs:
Now, throw that 707HP engine into my 1970 Cuda and I suspect it would turn heads....and tires. With that sort of output I would probably swap out the entire drive train...
