There are a lot of knives out there, but I know of no knife with a better overall design that if you could only carry ONE knife and other than your gun it would be you prime piece of equipment in a survival mode, this is as good as it gets.

2) Got my knife on my right hip, not visible in the pic, 1967, working operations with Korean White Horse Div, Rangers S of Tuy Hoa AO, just E of the China Sea (look in the background behind me)

Nice knife! A friend of mine was an APC commander, did some operations with the White Horse. Said they were pretty tough customers. Problem was back at base they wanted to fight everybody and anybody all the time, so they tried to keep em out in the field aimed at the VC and NVA.

You are very observant!

I was digging around a couple of days ago and came across an envelope with about 8 slides in it. Sent them out to be developed and of course they reversed them, I have already sent them back to have them done properly...not left handed here. LOL

Yep, the Korean's were tough cookies, I worked with them for an operation that lasted about 10 days...let me assure you, they did things we would have gone to jail for. Geneva Convention meant NOTHING to them...every man, women, child, dog, pig and burn it to the ground. I liked being with them, felt safe, very safe with them...

OH I didn't think about slides. I was sure OleCowboy wouldn't be up to Photoshop shenanigans, so I was starting to think the kid that handed me my coffee this morning slipped something in there.
Whew.. I'm ok now.

Here is what I had handy for picture taking.

On top is a couple of microtechs. Halo2 on the right is old 90's and well made, top quality. The ultratech, top left, (made 2007?) might as well have been made in china. I do not recommend microtech knives anymore.
That benchmade in the upper middle is the short production run with the titanium blade. Ti is not a good idea for a knife material, in fact it sucks but the novelty is cool.
The 2 large blades are from Busse combat and my all time favorites. The Fusion battle mistress and Hell razor have served me well and are as close to Hollywood indestructible as a knife can be. Heirloom knives right there.
The esee 4 at the bottom is simply a dang good all around utility knife that don't cost a fortune. I wish it was not serrated but it's something I can live with.
The SOG tomahawk I got on clearance $20. Regularly $30-$40, it's horribly cheap construction and cast stainless head, it's wonderful low price I don't worry about using the hell out of it. It simply works.

Top to bottom:
1. A Case knife that I got back when I was a Boy Scout. Don't know the model.
2. A Buck Special that my dad got me back in the '70s
3. A MK 3 MOD 0 UDT knife I bought in the early '80s. Don't know the Mfgr.
4. A Case folder I've had since forever.

#s 1, 2 and 4 have skinned their share of deer. #3 has never been out of the house.

Blades is blades. Right?

I've been eyeballing the edge pro for a year now deciding if I should spend the money. Is it really worth it?

i was always able to get a sharp knife, but this thing lets me get a surgical sharp knife, I can literally widdle HAIR with it

I have the apex, with 100-200-400-600-1000 stones and 2K-4K-6K tapes.

my griptalan is so sharp if you try to shave hair YOU WILL BLEED, my one chef knife in the house has cut everybody that has used it, AFTER I warn them that's the sharpest knife you have ever used! LOL (this knife is double beveled)

i have not yet double beveled the other knife..... it would be nuts, it has good steal so it can take the low angel

get and angel cube ($35) and magnet ($3) and a loupe (i got a 60x one) and "quick change spring),it does take some practice but you can get things VERY sharp. find all these here www.chefknivestogo.com/edgepro.html

there is also the "Wicked Edge" a guy at work has that one and it works well too, but it was more $$$ so i did the apex route.

The best part is its very consistent, you set the angle and go (angle cube really helps) and you can resharpen at that exact angel very easy

I don't know what you use as sharpness test, but i can put my knife at the lowest angle possible on the thumb nail and it grabs/will shave it if not careful

for paper i can set the knife on the paper edge and push cut through it, no fast swiping or anything, just moving slow

I can nearly push cut Toilet paper but i need to refine a bit more first. one or 2 areas of the blade.

to resharpen i can start at the 1000 or if it not bad I'll just use the tapes again.

going from 100 to 6K takes about 30-45 minutes, but you only need to do that if you re-profile the knife or it is badly damaged. in most cases you can sharpen with the 600 again, and most of the time i start withe the 1000 and work up from there
