I've always been a Gerber guy, good enough to use but cheap enough to loose. I'm not even sure what exact models I have hear but I like them as far as feel goes. The small one is over a year old and has kept a decent edge so it can't be to cheap of steel. It goes in my pocket most days and gets used for all those things your not supposed to do, still locks good and solid and doesn't rattle. I hope to never have a use for the big one.

Top to bottom:
Remington lock back pocket
Schrade lock back old old old! But good!
Valor boot knife
SOG Tactical -gave to son.
Cold Steel outdoorsman.
Handmade knife my father made while staging for invasion of Japan. He commanded a squad of amphibious Buffalo landing craft in the Pacific. They were told to expect 50% of them would be sunk in first wave, so he made up Shark knives for his whole squad out of Leaf spring steel from a wrecked 6x6. Put a heavy stainless pommel on it as a weapon in its own right. Keep it to remember him.
Western Bowie.

I love the story behind the old steel one Sisco. That's some major history in that piece....

It's funny to me that guys actually know the brand of their old knives. I never know WHO makes any of mine and I've got em all over the place. I spose it's cuz I always by cheap when it comes to knives. Salt water eats everything eventually so ya might as well plan on replacing anything you are gonna bring near it before too long... B)

I would think about one of the new ceramic blades, that might be the best route to go.

When you are out fishing on a breachway (which is where I normally go), it's all huge boulders and there's always the chance you could drop your expensive knife down into them and never see it again which is why I always have at LEAST 2 or 3 with me when fishing.

On a boat, when you are dealing with sharks over the gunnels or just leaning over cutting a line or something, again, there is a chance you could drop it again and sitting on 200 feet of water, it's always nicer to have another $6 knife handy than just one $200 one sitting on the bottom... :)

I've also seen guys completely KILL their blades on knives they've been bragging about all day trying to cut through shark skin.

I whip out my $8 fillet knife and $6 sharpener and then my $3 Benny's razor knife with a couple of extra blades and cut the meat with my fillet knife and then the skin with my razor knife.

I can have half the shark butchered before most guys can even get a decent edge back on their $125 carbide filleting set...

My ways ain't always pretty, but I've handled a LOT of sharks in my day and fed a lot of seniors with all my free fish drops... :)

Ain't too many senior citizens sittin around eatin Mako Shark and Tuna steaks for FREE unless they happen to be pals with Ole Sharkey... :)

Fresh Tuna  I couldn't believe it was the same thing in the can after getting to try it fresh once.

Since I've been yakking in here, I thought it best that I contribute so I pulled a few old beaters out from their hiding places near my chair and snapped a pic. The one on the top actually goes on my Plug Bucket for when I'm surf-casting so it's a lil beat but you could still shave with it if you were so inclined...

I had the opportunity to have some fresh caught North Carolina Yellowfin two weeks ago. My friends picked Mr. Midwesterner, me! To cook it.personally I like it Sharks way. Some soy sauce and wasabi right on the boat.you will never have Shashimi that fresh again! But I did okay. Salt pepper, some soy sauce/maple syrup coating and sear it over a wood fire and serve fast. None was left, so I guess they liked it.

It looks fancy but it's an el-cheapo. The grip is "ok" at best and the dragon LOOKS real cool but in a bad situation wouldn't really help much...

My favorite of this batch is the one on the top. Great grip, great feel. I'm sort of a tactile kinda fella I guess and I prefer things that "feel" right and I have to touch and get a sense from anything I keep near me or might ever need. That one has it in a big way which is why I keep it near my chair at home AND take it fishing with me.

I think my wife got #2 at a fair or something for me. It's no big deal... :cheer:

The other ones I got in a big batch of bowie sized knives I bought off the home shopping network when I was sharking all the time. Every year I'd get like 50 of em for like 100 bucks or something and I'd use em for cutting bait and stuff, knowing they wouldn't last long anyway. Those are some left-overs. I've got 40 or so still hanging around from different batches...

They actually have some pretty good deals on there if you are looking for knives that LOOK real cool, will last at least a little while under hard use and only cost about 2 or 3 bucks a piece... :)
