I've helped many friends build, or assemble, rifles. Never had one fail to date.
I did have a DPMS LR10-POS that I could never get to run right. After three trips back to DPMS, they replaced it with a new rifle, I sold that pile of dung, bought an Armalite.
Biggest problem I ever had with mine was broken extractors. Like, four of them. What I've heard was that there was a batch of them that just were not up to specifications. Finally got one that works, plus a spare. Thankfully Brownells will take care of parts that break.
I have to ask though: What ever are you going to do with all of that rail space in front of the receiver?
If you don't have any plans for it, I humbly suggest a night vision device.

The DPMS would not feed more than two rounds, the third would always nose dive into the np barrel extension. It rand fine with five round mags, but never could run with the 20 round mags. This was well befor the PMags were available. dPMS must have sent me twenty mags, two bolts, three bolt carrier groups, a complete upper, then they finally replaced the entire rifle. I then sold it.
Rail space..........mainly to cover the gas block and get the bipod out farther. I have plans on re-barreling this with a 16" and adding a suppressor down the road.
Wrench.... I really like your Apex handguard... And am contemplating getting one for my 16 inch carbine... However the thing that concerns me.. Wouldn't it get real hot out in the sun...??

Some of them can. I rarely shoot, at a rate to heat up a rifle that much. I normally take a few and rotate between them, allowing them to stay rather cool. I always have flight gloves in my shooting bag, if they do get hot, I am gtg.
As far as the MI rail/tube,......I wanted a 15" to cover the gas block on my rifle barrel. I was also interested in weight. The Apex was a good choice for my needs. The MI is a good choice as well. If you get one, pay darn fine attention to the torque in those retainer screws at the barrel nut! I broke one of those rails a while back due to over tightening. Do that and you are on your own, not covered under warranty.
The Apex installation in idiot proof,......another reason I chose it! :rotfl:
WrenchBndr: Not a fan of the Russian mount-the-bipod-directly-to-the-front-of-the-reciever (on the SVD anyway) school of thought you say? I always thought it was an interesting idea. Some HK 91's were made with receiver mounted bipods. The Swiss mounted the bipod on their sniper variant of the K-31 Schmitt Rubin right ahead of the receiver too.
