So, after all these years, finally got an ACOG

Holy crap,...why did I wait so long. This has the red horseshoe with a center dot. Think EoTecr reticle with an open bottom frm 5-7 o'clock

And tough, too. No worries if you drop it. My biggest criticism of the ACOG is the short eye relief.

In bright sun, the fiber optic can make the reticle TOO bright. What we used to do to remedy that was to take a bit of 100 MPH tape and cover part of it

I have heard of that tape trick. We rarely had optics, were lucky if we got an A2.
The eye relief on this TA33 is very good, it is positioned at T8 and I shoot ntch.

Would guess 3-4" eye relief

You are gonna like that Trijicon its good stuff and what makes it good is that if you had to you could use it for a hammer and still have a good scope at the end of the day. No one else out there can make that claim. And, while there are better 'scopes' they are far more costly and nowhere near as rugged for a real SHTF scope.

That's a change for the better, then.

So far I've resisted the urge to put RMR mini-red dots on my ACOGs because of the large height over bore.

Any comments or experience on how they stack up against the Elcan's?????

The early Elcan Spectres had some optical issues like fuzziness around the edges and the BDC reticles being way off. I'm told those problems were corrected with the Spectre DR.

I do have a set of GG&G 45 degree sight mounts I may install at a later date. For now, I have a front Troy and the KAC rear. ACOG can be quickly removed if need be.

Specter DR is a great optic

A lot of people complain of weight. (It being heavier that a red dot, holo, or acog.

But it does the job of two sets of optics.

To get something similar you need a red dot/holo with magnifier.

Add the weight of that combo plus mounts and your pretty close to what the Specter Weighs.

Never cared for the Specter........and it sure as hell is not lighter than an ACOG
