Could some of you guys post your best ar10t load? I've not been able to crack my
federal match ammo groups with handloads.

I think Kreiger makes their barrels in a variety of twist rates, can you post yours? thanks.

I use Hornady 30503 168gr BTHP(M) (BC:0.450) in a Winchester brass cut to length with a LEE hand case trimmer and neck turned to ensure uniform thickness.
I use CCI Bench Rest primers.
Power is 48.5 grains of Win 760.
I use a COL of 2.790 and a Lee "factory crimp" die to finish things off.
I try for 2650 fps, last time I checked ten rounds out of my AR-10(T) I had:
Max 2660
Min 2618
Spread 42
Sum 26442
Avg 2644
SumDiff 100
Avg Dev 10
Std Dev 14
Where I don't weigh each componenet (brass, projectile, primer) before starting, I do weigh the finished bullets and pull out any odd balls.
Oh, and don't get me wrong here... I do trickle the powder to ensure exactly 48.5 grains.
I'll also note that this load is right at the max volume for this combination of components. If the powder hasn't settled in the case on the dump, if you listen real closely when seating the bullet, you can hear a very slight ~crunch~ as the bullet packs down the powder right at the moment you finish seating. Yes, I've worked to plan it this way to prevent any sort of funky variation such as location of air space in a cartridge whose powder doesn't fill it entirely.

I guess I'm not really giving a "best load" here, but hopefully some useful info. I'm playing with an AR10B with a receiver sight, and my "grandpa" eyes. So my groups don't compare with AR10T's with big scopes.

I've tried Venezualan CAVIM 147gr ball, So African ball, Serbian Prvi Partizan ball and Remington 150gr SP. All fed very well in the AR10B and shot as well as I can shoot it. For those of you searching for ammo, if you find any of the CAVIM or the Prvi, it's great -- and reloadable. The So African ball is unfortunately Berdan primed. I've got some new Federal 150gr SPs on hand, but haven't tried them yet (recent birthday gift!).

As for handloads, I've been shooting a lot of FN (Fabrique National) 150gr FMJBT bullets, because years ago I bought thousands of them. I also bought a bunch of IMI match brass. 43.0gr of AA#2520 gives me 2499fps in the AR10B, and about 3inch groups at 100yds, if I can do my part. That's about as well as I can shoot my M1A Nat Match. Remember, no scope. Also, some days I shoot better than others, so this is my best.

I've also tried the same 43.0gr of AA#2520 with a 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, for 2573fps; this load seems even more accurate, but needs more testing.

Back to the FN FMJBT bullet. With 46.0gr of IMR4064, I get 2723fps, and it looks like it'll also be a 3" load.

I'm starting to experiment with Hodgdons Benchmark powder, but haven't got any results to report yet.

I have concluded that my AR10B is only happy if I use a Redding small base sizing die, and a Lee Factory Crimp die. It has a tight chamber, and the SB die avoids feeding issues. My match M1A doesn't seem to mind either way, so I'm standardizing all my 7.62mm sizing to SB. So far I've been exclusively using CCI200 primers, but I'm switching over to CCI34 milspec primers. I was able to latch onto several thousand of those (Natchez Shooting Supplies).

Remember, guys, don't be too hard on my accuracy groups. Most of my rifles have scopes, but being from the "olden days" of military service, I like to play with the M1A the way my issued M14 was set up, and wanted a vintage AR10 (the new "retro" version). I love both rifles; both are super quality.

My AR10T seems to like Sierra 168gr Match Kings on top of 45.0 of WW748. I use RCBS 'standard' 308 dies, vintage circa 1980, and a Rock Chucker press of similar era. No feeding or function issues.

I also use that load in a Remington 700 with good success. I've not experimented a lot recently. I had an HK91 that I sold years ago (yeah, I know) and a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight (circa 1982) which I still have, but hadn't loaded for the latter in a loooooonnng time.

Gents,

Don't know how I missed contributing to this thread earlier...so here goes.

One of my favorite gas gun loads is dated back to my M1A match shooting days, but it's been a winner in every gas gun I've ever shot it in...it's borderline hot so watch for pressure signs...start a few grains of powder down and work up.

Bullet: 175 Gr. Sierra Match King
Powder: Accurate Arms 2520/42.5 Grains
Case: LC87 Match (trimmed to length, flash hole deburred internally, primer pocket uniformed)
Primer: Winchester Large Rifle
OAL: 2.800"

Has shot eqpually well in my M1A and M25. The AR-10 likes it, too,

Bolt Gun Load:
Bullet: 175 Gr. Sierra Match King
Powder: 44.0 Gr. Hogdon's Varget
Case: Lapua
Primer: Federal 210M
OAL: 2.800"

This is a very close equivelent to the military's M118LR load. Lapua brass is very expensive. You may want to substitute something else for use in your gas guns...

Hope this helps.

Wes

Hey Z, is that formula for Auto Loaders or Bolts, as I will be starting some time soon, as soon as I get a few more things.
I also would like to know what would make for a good plinking or stock piling formula, I figured I have the brass, Ultra max, winchester, federal, remington and or course Hornady.
Will save the Hornady for the good loads and the Ultra max for the stock pile.
