Shark, you are the guru! Usually I yell out "look a UFO!" And point to the sky before I do it.

Gotta be good for SOMETHING around here I guess. Leb and Colt are the techno gurus and I'm like the comedy sidekick... Ya know, if and when I ever come up with anything funny...

Although I have enjoyed the joking and banter in this thread - I am also interested in the original question. Has anyone loaded the H4895 and Sierra 186 grain Match King for a AR10-T? I am looking for a safe starting point as well and would really like to hear from someone who has actually used the combination.

Hello Keefer and sorry if we ran off a bit. I believe Sisco mentioned a thread that LebbenB had done where that ammo was talked about specifically in the 2nd post. I'll find it and see if I can link it to this one.

Found it. www.ar10t.com/forums/search?q=range%20re...only=1&childforums=1

Keefer thanks for bringing us back. I am interested also. I have a lot of reloading experience in 5.56 but none in 7.62x51 or .308.

I've used H4895 before. It burns a little "cooler" than IMR4895, so the starting load for a 168 SMK is 41 grains ( according to Hodgdon's data.) Max charge is 43.5 with a COL of 2.8" and using standard (non-magnum) large rifle primers.

It's a good powder, I just found it to be a little more temperature sensitive than IMR 4895.

I highly recommend checking out Hodgdon's load data site. Lots of good (safe) info there.

Thanks for the info guys. Did my break in today with 41gr of H4895 and the 168 MK. Hard to tell anything during the break in ritual, although there were occasional tight groupings. I'm sure I'll have more questions as the search for the magic load begins. Absolutely love the gun and I'm looking forward to tapping in to your collective knowledge.

Steve

Thanks Guys! I will proceed with the 41 grains and try to get my rifle through the barrel break in process next Saturday (if the weather cooperates).
