I'll second 7.62SASS. I just ordered one (triggerless LPK) a couple months ago and they're like $60.00. [strike]He has the Geisselle (and other) triggers too.[/strike]

ADCOfirearms.com has Geiselle Triggers.

I hunt on ground (blind), still hunt, and stand hunting. I want long range ability because I will be hunting midwest in the next year or so. Thanks for reply! More info if possible.

Hey Bod. So, if I go with a 16", that would be sufficient enough for 50yds out to say, 350-400 yds? Or do you guys suggest I move to an 18" if available. I was up for a little while last night trying to find an upper wit 18". Should I get complete upper? I'm looking for cost effective route. I was told I could build the ar 10 for under 1,000.

Thanks so much. This forum is awesome, but I'm finding it difficult navigating and searching for information like parts to use for the build, if DPMS upper will work with Armalite lower, etc. Where would I look for some info on a build?

You can go with a longer barrel to enhance the reach, but don't plan on reaching past 800y realistically. Now don't get me wrong. 308 can and has taken longer shots. Such a shot would be best taken with ballistic coefficients approaching .600 or better. You would need to keep the velocity above 1300 out to the range you are shooting to preserve accuracy. I have not crunched the numbers to tell you what precisely is needed as I don't know your exact needs. Just remember that what snipers have done in the field doesn't equal an ethical shot on hunting game.

BigGun, the 16" vs 18" is less than 100fps. The 16" in .308 has aplenty power for dear size game out well past 400y.

I would go with a complete upper so you know you have the headspace correct. I don't know if you have the proper gauges or experience to assemble an upper or not.

I don't think I'll ever be shooting 800yds. lol. Unless things really go wrong in this country, then that might be necessary. I really appreciate the info. I'm looking at the LR-308 Upper w/18" CM Bull Barrel. However, that upper is over $800. A little out of my price range. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Personally I would keep saving. You get what you pay for. If your not planning on shoot past 400y you can get away with 1.5 moa. You could do your build with a lighter barrel, and save a few ducks. You could go with a short and light with flat top, possible free float, and get a long heavy upper later.

I've shot my 26" Lilja 3 groove out to 1000 yards. People that shoot service rifle in the 1000 yard matches use M1As with 20 in. barrels and they go that far. Most use either the 175 or the 155 grn bullets. For some reason the 168s seem to run out of gas just short of 1 grand. Pulled a couple of key holed targets myself for people trying.

I have a 16" rifle and a 26" in the AR10. Each has it's place I guess. An 18 inch barrel seems like it would be a good tweener.

Noveski (sp?) makes 18" barrels. Be prepared to wait.

As for some of your other questions no, the DPMS uppers won't fit on the ArmaLite AR10 (well actually they will but you will have a big gap between the upper and lower at the rear take down pin). Same with Bushmaster, RockRiverArms, and some others I can't think of right now.

Head space is taken care of when the barrel extension is installed on the barrel itself. You could send your bolt along with your barrel order and then you will know it's good to go.

You ever rebarrel an AR before?

I'm certainly going to take my time, but I want to gather all the information so that I can purchase certain parts when I have the extra $$. I'd like to start with the lower. When you say "be prepared to wait", is that due to back order?

What do you guys think about the armalite complete lower assemblies? I will be swapping out the trigger for the Timney. Also, is the stocks interchangeable? Would I be able to go with a collapsible stock in the future if I choose to do so? Thanks for all the help. This is great. I'm very excited and very enthusiastic about getting started.
