This is probably another stupid question but here goes....
Why didnt you get the A4 receiver and a detachable carry handle.
These are questions I am bouncing around in my empty bucket.
I am fairly new to "black guns". Remmy 742 30.06 was my battle rifle back in the day. Both of my sons made the transition from wood furniture to black in the CORP. They both laugh at my dinosaur ways.
I thank all of yall here on AR10T. Other sites are not as patient with flagrant ignorance.
So Sharkey, Why you do what you do with your rifle?
I went with the standard issue style because that was what I was used to. I've got a lot more experience with iron sights and being closer than a scope would allow to whatever I was doing and it just made more sense to me when I bought it.
Buying different uppers and all that is great if you've got the money to throw around but I don't so I work with what I have. Also, as for the scope, I got a deal on that you wouldn't believe which is the only reason that photo doesn't have some el cheapo scope on there... :laugh:
As far as accuracy, I'm no sniper. I'm a kick in the door and bash em all with the buttstock kinda fella but considering I'll shoot a 20 round mag in a minute or so at 200 yards, I'm guessing a 3 inch group at 200 ain't too bad for a hacker...
:laugh: my friends ask my why I don't change out the solid A2 whateveryoucallit butt stock on my rifle. Then I hit them with it and they stop asking just kidding.
I've noticed a good many people that do tactical training prefer the fixed iron sights. They are pretty much idiot proof in design, no fasteners to come loose or buttons to push, they are damn tough as well. I was going that route so I could take advantage of previous training but realized one important muscle memory was mostly gone, my eyeball!
With parts being so scarce these days you'll have plenty of time to shoot the rifle, who knows, you might want to leave it as is or just hold out for a complete upper with a flat top and have everything covered!
One word of caution, modifying your AR-10 has been known to be very addictive! Enjoy! :usa:

I have had three AR types, two fixed carry handle, and one flat top. Both have advantages. The big one for fixed handle, is you have the iron sights there to use all the time. Now that I have a Delta cheekpiece for my prime fixed handle, I really don't notice it. I get a good cheek weld on the scope, and it is more accurate then I am able to exploit. I have thought about switching out upper receivers, but I don't think it would be worth the cost. If I was going to go Picatinny rail crazy and hang a ton of stuff all over it, than maybe it would, but I am happy and familiar with what I have so I am going to keep it that way.
My bank account does not like my rifle. It talks to me like some really liberal people. It says stuff like, "why do you really need that anyway?" and things like that.
I am realizing that already. I am having WAY too much fun doing this. I keep telling my bride she will thank me for this when the SHTF. I forgot I had told her that when I got my second AR15. {for her, of course}
My apologies. My AR10 is a A4. I have two other Fixed handle AR's. I would say yes simply because the platform is so darn accurate, and it is almost a shame not to put a capable scope on it. But you could do it like Sharkey's and it would work just fine. It really is a toss up. My AR15 HBAR Fixed carry handle National Match is as accurate as my AR10. So it really is personal preference.
