:( I am sorry to hear that. I think returning it to Sig is the best solution. When you do, send a detailed report like you have given us, and ask for a copy of the finished repair ticket so you can see what was done, and what the issue was, in case it crops up again. I have admired the concept of those Sigs, but I am a little gun shy until they get these issues worked out. Good Luck!

Sharkey wrote: Wow. I'm VERY sorry to hear you are still having issues Moreau. I think either Lebben, Colt or MrRaley might be able to come up with the best ideas to help you out at this point though as they are some of our best gurus on this stuff.

I'm hoping one of them has some more ideas.

Did you go over the issues Lebben suggested looking at as well?

I wish I could help my but I'm just not going to try to guess against the knowledge these guys have.

Let's see what they come up with before you go packing it up... :(

Yeah, I've tried all of the suggestions, tips and tricks I've been given. The mags come in tomorrow, if they do not get it running I'll be calling customer service for a shipping label. A guy from the Sig shop said that their turnover was usually about 2 weeks which I thought was pretty impressive. It will be interesting to see if this is an accurate wait time estimate...

"... reliable enough to fire thousands of rounds without fail..." A line from the automated spiel they give you while waiting on hold. I began laughing manically! :rotfl: I'm not giving up on them yet!

I can't wait until this is all over and I can post some pics or videos of an operating Sig r716!

We're all with you Moreau and share your pain man. This stinks but once you get it straightened out, it'll just be a memory and when the rounds are flying downrange, it'll be one that won't really matter all that much so hang with it and keep us in the loop.

I'll be very interested to see their turn-around time as well and who knows, maybe you could mention that you have a forum with over 4,000 members waiting to hear the outcome and that'll give em a little incentive to see it through quickly....

Good luck and while it's gone, at least you'll have plenty of time for reading threads and getting to know everyone a little better...

Available evidence indicates that the action is short-stroking, and I think that this is unlikely to be a mag or feed ramp issue. Assuming you can lock the bolt back manually, and that you've got the bolt good and greasy, it sounds like you're using low-power ammo (or the wrong lubricant).

Before you send it back I'd slather the bolt with Lubriplate and try some 180gr pointed rounds. My personal preference is Remington 180gr PSP-CL (assuming you can find it), but remember to return the gas tap to the "Normal" position before you let fly.

I've been using Rem oil and Remington 180grs Express CoreLokt still produced the FTF issues. I guess I can get it REALLY wet and try it tomorrow with the heavy loads. I have some Fusion 180grs .308 I will try in it as well as the Remington rounds. Just odd that the 150grs Hornady American Whitetail works... I'll also try it again tomorrow before I call for the shipping label just to see if anything has changed. Yeah I agree it's probably not the mag, but I'm hoping, lol.

Save the ammo.. I'm willing to bet it's a faulty gas block and the factory will make it right.

Shipping a firearm off to the manu. can be nerve racking, to say the least. Making that phone call is the first step: be respectful and reasonable with CS. They will instruct you as to THEIR process of how it is done. At the most you will have to drive to a UPS or FedEx hub to drop it off, after boxing it up. It takes some time and energy, but that's our part of getting some things done right.

As a SIG factory trained LE Armorer I will help to make it right, if the CS person you deal with is less than helpful. I'll be on the road in my next 6 day tour, so don't expect any immediate responses in the event you PM me.

Isn't Rem Oil a real light lubricant sort'a like sewing machine oil? I've got some around here somewhere, but I use surplus CLP (which is either much like, or identical, to Lubriplate). I think the action needs something a bit more substantial.

When I got my first 10 (an A4BF) I had short stroke issues with 150gr Remington and 168 gr Horniday, but the 180 Remington PSP-CL ran fine. After a couple hundred rounds down the pipe it will feed and cycle the 168s, but not the 150s. The primary issues appear to have been lubrication and break in.

Since then we've acquired a 10BNMF (and then another one ;) ), and we broke them in using 180 gr. I strongly prefer commercial ammo, and Lord Knows Remington has some issues, but as of last year they were still making good rounds.

Your rifle is different than mine, but I know Sig equipment. Got a P226 (or two) and a P239. Love 'em! Sig pays enormous attention to detail both in engineering and production. Stuff happens, but I think their engineering errors are nil, and production errors are both rare and minor.

But of course! I've worked in CS before and I know how it is. What's that saying, "You catch more bees with honey than vinegar?" I know to be respectful and kind while still expressing my concern. Thanks for the help and insight, I will be calling them tomorrow if the magical magazine fairy doesn't fix all of my problems. HA!

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks again 10-76!

I talked to CS today, got the label printed, gun packaged and will be dropping it off at the FedEx store tomorrow. I hope to have my rifle back in my hands in a few weeks! I will be sure to post some pics as soon as it comes back in and I get it all set back up. So far Sig CS has been awesome, the CS rep said the average turnover time is 2 weeks, 3 max, which is a HUGE relief. I was afraid I would be without for much longer. :twothumbs:
