Looking to buy my first AR-10, I own a Colt M4 which I love.
This AR-10 will be used for hunting and light range use. I'm leaning toward a model AR-10A4B from Armalite. but at the same time I was very impressed with the finish and how well built the DPMS LR-308 is. Suggestions?

Well first off, you got it right....A AR-10 or a LR.308...score one point...but being you own a Colt.... just kidding...
and the Noveske...well that is the HIGH END after market part for the AR-10....VERY GOOD BUT VERY $$$$$
If a standard .308 is what you are looking for, the question is what do you want to pay....and do you want to own a "generic" version of the Original...The AR-10...or do you want to spend the extra $$ and get the Original...again...The AR-10, ArmaLite that is...being that said....a few things also you have to think about...ArmaLite is unto it's own in many ways with parts and magazines and such, so it takes a special soul to own them....where as DPMS uses a generic style which interchange with most of the other .308 AR "VARIANTS"...well except for RRA...that is a different story on it's own...
Noveske is a most excellent company as well but they use the ArmaLite lowers and mags and such...
So the question is do you want to be part of the "crowd" or stand out as an "individual" and go with an Independent Leader that will not become a part of the Beast of Cerberus.... :P
Buy an ArmaLite..... B)
I know real deep...but hey...why not...

I'd say go with an ArmaLite, but I'm biased. Here's a list of what we have in stock at the factory. You can also go to gunsamerica.com and click onto their "Buy On Demand" program. You can put in your zip code, choose the gun you want, and be given a list of ArmaLIte dealers near you who will have one or order one for you. Let us know what you finally buy!

I'm glad tou answer me... I have a question you should be able to answer me:

What is the difference between the models 10A4BF and the 10A4B?

The AR-10A4BF has a foward assist. The AR-10B does not. The F is the giveaway.
On our website, we have a page for all of our weapons' "key characteristics," including model names. There is a translation of the nomenclature at the bottom of the page. Here's the link:
ArmaLite Key Characteristics

It takes a while to get good at them.
One example is 10A4CF. It's an AR-10 with an A4 sight,Carbine,Foward assist. The 10A4CBF is the exact same carbine, but in black instead of green because of the B.
I'll check the board over the weekend in case you have more questions.

You mentioned you want it for hunting...if you want to take big game at long range...consider the AR-10T. It will easily outshoot most of the .308 bolt guns that I own, including my Sako TRG-22, which cost much more.

Don't know how they do it, but these are deadly accurate gas guns!

Looking to buy my first AR-10,

I would recommend the ArmaLite. Check Gunbroker, there are several used rifles listed at some really good prices.

I try not to be a brand snob, but I am bias toward Armalite and Noveske products. I feel they offer a superior weapon.

Thank you very much for the input!! Made my life waaaaay easier!
I think I got a winner. The model is the AR10TBFN.
Now what I would like to know is what is the great difference between
this "T" Model to other Armalites.
Two other things are:
- The finish on this barrel is stainless. Possible to refinish?
- How hard is to thread this barrel without performance loss?
This rifle will be fitted with a Gemtech HVT.
