Well, no matter good or bad, where the throat has been cut, there's going to be tool marks and it would benefit from the Tubb TMS so no worries there. I think all of Armalite's barrels are at least double lapped these days and the AR-10T models are triple lapped. I screwed you up by not going with a known comodity like a lilja or kreiger. At least you'll have a current production barrel to look at with the bore scope and be able to comment on it in this forum. That's to everyone's benefit. As a friend of mine says "it ain't nuthin' but a thing". Let me know what you find and what you recommend.
Thanks for the posts. I also plan on going by the letter for the Armalite break in procedures and I will use good ammo for the break in. The manuel also discourged any compunds to "aid" in break in. Also, I thought that the triple lapped barrel from Armalite was a good thing?
Hey Brian, thought I would follow-up with you. MMSSHH did scope that bore from the factory and he was "very impressed" with the barrel overall. We still have to see how it shoots.
MMSSHH has done a few things to my new upper that may (as he and I discussed) help with accuracy short of buying a new Lilja barrel. As far as his break-in procedure vs. the factory's....that's your call. All I know is that his name shows up pretty frequently as the 'gunsmith of record' for people who've won lots of shooting trophys.
Thanks Guy's for the break in period information, I'am doing what Armalite suggest on the break in period, Mine is triple lapped with the match grade 20" barrel, cleaning after each, I don't have a problem with that. No problems so far, I'm using 168 gr bthp Federal Gold Match Ammo.
I too am getting ready to break in my barrel, which is a Mk 11 Mod 0 Obermeyer 20 in (510 mm) match target barrel. I was very lucky to have acquired this one for my build. Laughing, do you feel the same break in procedure should be done no matter what barrel you're using? I'm a FNG in this sport, but went all out in my build so that I could have a weapon that is more capable than I am. I have a safe full of FMJ Wincester 147gr. Cabelas had a great sale on this stuff last month. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have been following the break in procedure per Armalite instructions for a match barrel,But realized the bore brush I am using is nylon, not bronze. How badly have I screwed up here?
We use only the stiff nylon brushes from Montana Extreme. There will not be any metal of any type that goes down my bore except for the bullets. Our barrels keep the competitive longer that way. Montana Extreme BR 50 has no water in it like Sweets and Shooters Choice does ether hint hint.MSH
Well, one of the reasons it's 'surplus' is that it does'nt meet "specifications". A while back I bought 120rds of some surplus M118 (no LR) ammo with the same LOT number, and I tried to use it for break-in of an AR10T upper. What happen is, if you have ever seen any of those weird ejection port jam ups in magazines/internet, that's what this ammo did!! after 15 ammo screw ups (all bullets went out the tube) I just packed it up, and went home. At home I just broke the seals, dumped the powder, FL sized the case without the decapper, refilled with 44.0grs of BLC(2) and reseated the 172gr bullets. Now at the range it worked like it was suppose to do, and was very accurate to boot!!
Lastly, go to ArmaLite's website and look in the library under "cheap ammo". I bought my ammo so I could use the cases, I'm sure the stuff you bought has berdan primers (non-corrosive).

OK....A note for you guys....now the subject of BREAK IN is a debated one...like alot of other things in this world of guns...
But I can tell you...If it is "NEW"....spend the money and get "HIGH QUALITY AMMO"....you will save your self a headache in the future and your gun will preform much better...then you can shoot the "bargain" or "surplus" stuff...unless it is a training weapon and meant to get the hell beat out of it....even then, they use new ammo that is meant for it....MSH correct me if I am wrong on this....anyway that is just what I have found....YOU have spent $$$$$$$$$$$$ on building it or buying it....then treat it right...
You wouldn't put Walmart tires and lawnmower gas in and on a Ferrari would you....Point made....Sorry about the tude....but that is just me....QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY....then cheap....

Your on it BMS. That was the case at school last week. The good ammo shot 3/8" while the Wolf shot 1 1/2". I brung the pama rifle out with iron sights and on the rest shot a tighter group than that. Ammo must match the rifle and a record book should be kelp.MSH
