Na, it's not just you or just Hawaii. I live here in Michigan and got doinked by Midway for $17.00 S&H for a $19.00 extended mag well for my Rem Sendero.
Just got doinked by Rock River for $12.00 S&H for a $15.00 trigger guard.
Midway gave me a $4.45 credit after I called back to complain. I just ordered a $279 Geisselle trigger and shipping was $4.44. Total came to $278.99.
Go figure. I think they try to get you on the small cheap stuff.
A lot of times before I buy stuff on Gunbroker I'll send an e-mail asking if they'll ship USPS flat rate. UPS & FedEx can be extreme, especially on small stuff.
I've never had anything but great service from Armalite. It's always been fast, helpful, and good. I've bragged on other forums about them because I scream the loudest when I get bad service from a company, but it's been nothing but good from Armalite.
Seems to me that Armalite followed their established policies and that said policies were available to you before you made the order. In essence, you are complaining about the deal that you made with Armalite.
I think it is time to let this one go on ArmaLite....Sam has it about right....Living in Paradise has its drawbacks...it all costs...You know if I remember right,,,Uncle A correct me if I am wrong...They have or used to have a minimum charge on stuff...if it was to small of an order, it cost you X dollars any way...I think we all have bit the bullet on shipping charges at one time or another..from one company or another....if you guys really want to hack and harp on one....Find that cheaper than dirt thread and have at....enough said...

Lousiana, you are partially right. However, there are no other options for shipping when using Armalite's webstore. So, if you want to think of things in a bureacratic sense, such that if the policies/charges are there in black and white, then they must be right and just, then yes, I'm complaining about a deal that I made. If you take the time to think outside the box though, charging me 25 dollars to ship a vise block is absurd when it can be done for around $7.
I had another problem with an order that I made over the telephone for a mag pack, it wasn't shipped for over two weeks, and when I inquired about the status of the order they told me they didn't know what happened but they'd get it right out to me... Problem resolved. However, if I'm paying these exorbitant prices for materials and shipping, I expect better.
I wish I could agree with everyone and say that I've received the same stellar service that everyone raves about from Armalite, but I can't... I'm anxious to hear Uncle AL's response.
To me, the term "raw deal" is properly used to denote some dishonesty by a party to a deal. My analysis of what you described caused me to conclude that there was no dishonesty and you were not cheated in any way.
Perhaps there is a customer service issue in that Armalite arranged the shipping options in a way which maximized efficiency for them instead of a way that was most cost effective for you.
