As for bipods I went with the Harris. I got the one with the longer legs, I think they're like 13" fully up but they go to over 24" when all the way out. In the real world (OK, at least where I have hunted) you'll find that you will need the extra height from time to get over the grass and other ground clutter. The extra length is great for a sitting position too. If your just going to be using it at the range where it's mowed or off a bench then the shorter version works fine.
Another thing, the Harris ones seem kind of flimsy when compared to the one I have for my M1A. They are a lot lighter though. There are some heavier duty ones out that might suit the rough action better if that's what you're into.
GG&G makes what looks like a pretty stout model. They aren't cheap though.
Thanks for the link. I have a Harris on my standard AR-10T 20" and it has worked fine. But you are right, I only shoot it for fun at the police range. However, It was fun to see a couple of our snipers jaws drop when I shot a 5 shot 3/8ths inch group. Of course, that was only from a 100 yards.
Since this is the SASS model I may go with something a little heavier. That GG&G extra heavy duty extreme looks very interesting. I also need to decide if I am going to leave the Trijicon on the rifle or go with something else. For now I will probably leave it, but I have become spoiled with the 6x18x50 Swarovski on my other gun. When I get it broken in and can start shooting groups I will post a pic and give a range report. Thanks again for the link.
duty with the picitinny rail attachment. I have never owned one, so I hope it is what I am looking for. The good news is that I bought it from Brownell's and they have the no BS return policy. I will post an opinion when it arrives.
Unfortunately, Brownell's e-mailed me and said their inventory was wrong and the bi-pod was back ordered until mid-May. I called Versa-pod directly to see if they would sell me one. They said yes, BUT..it would cost me $70.00 MORE than what Brownell's would sell it for. The only reason I wanted the Versa Pod was because it looked similar, yet heavier duty, than the Harris that I have on my other gun.
My other chioce was the GG&G Heavy Duty Extreme. It will be delivered on Thursday and I will let all of you know my impression. It is a little different than what I have, however, I have found things usually turn out the way they are supposed too. Stay tuned.
I got my GG&G bi-pod late last week and went to the range. This is a NICE bi-pod. It is more robust and as nicely made as anything I have ever used. Excellent product and customer service! Now I think I am going to upgrade my scope to the Trijicon 5x20x50 accu-point mil-dot with amber dot. Has anyone used one of these scopes?
