GFM in Austria will tool you up for under 2 mil depending on your needs. agfm.com. The hammer fordging process was developed in Germany during WW2 as a way to produce barrels in high numbers. If you want a really accurate barrel you will dig through more than 10 blanks to find that one sweet barrel, and that's on pretty new equipment. This is why you will hear of a factory rifle that shoots unusually well every so often. Hammer fordging is a better process if you can find that sweet blank. Over in Europe the custom shops have suppliers that provide them with hand picked blanks. If you could import one of those you would have a special rifle. Personally I would just get a nice button rifled barrel, and put my money in the rest of the rifle as unless you are in a 10,000 round match, and need to maintain hair splitting accuracy for that long its not worth the headache.

Do you know how much weight the side charging handle adds to the bolt? I ask because on my project recoil is an issue. To tame it some I was going to use a Tubb CS Buffer Spring in conjunction with their CWS(Carrier Weight System) that slows the bolt down. Has anyone used either of these products with good results?

Good info here.

Any insight on chambering for the Berger VLDs?

Do they need to be close to the lands?... unlike the FGMM?
