Sorry wrong area

I just bought a used AR 10T and after I got it home I noticed it has no FA.
I don't really care because it is a real shooter.
I was just wondering how long ago they started putting FA on these rifles.

Thank You
Rick

I wish I had the answer to that one Rick but I'm sure one of our gurus will come through for you before too long.

In the meantime, congrats on the new purchase and Welcome to the site... :welcome:

Always good to see new members here at the Home of the Big Bang AR's....

Welcome Rick, I also do not have the answer but some thoughts on the subject. I don't see it as to much of a draw back, I keep my weapon very well lubed and have never had to use mine. its great that you got a used AR10T right now seems they are pretty scarce.

Welcome Rick. Like your bolt face Avatar. I have owned AR's since the mid 80's and never once have I used a forward assist. Maybe if I was in a jungle, desert, and in an extended fire fight I might need it, but don't see much need for civilian use.

Welcome to the FORUM Rick.
I have an "Eagle Arms" AR10 and it came with NO F.A. but I too have never had the need for one, yet.
IF, someday, I ever have enough funds and Armalite has the .243 uppers available, I am going to make that purchase, those do have the forward assist on them.
I think the F.A.s is a sort of a K00L factor, not really necessary, but K00L.

On the ArmaLite AR-10's they started making the forgings with the forward assist about 2009 after there was enough interest or demand from shooters.

After all other forgings were exhausted, they stuck with just the one with the FA.

Guessing adding it may have had something to do with the SASS contract competition, which should have neen won by Armalite( personal opinion).

Not sure if the SASS bid had anything to do with it or not.

Because the SR-25 didn't have one either. Not sure if they have one now.

I could have sworn the original M110s had forward assists, but only because I remember someone complaining about the newer ones NOT having one.

I've used forward assists plenty of times. Then again, I don't keep my rifles spotless and primarily shoot rifles that don't aren't... "top of the line," so ymmv.

This is out of their Armores manual that I received in 2008 when I went through their course.

You will notice that there is no FA and at that time, they didn't have the brass deflector as part of the rifle also, it was an additional item that was clamped on.
