I like the 175gr bullet (in case I have to go to the M118 ammo), but do any of you guys have a good starting point (load and powder) for that weight bullet?

Replied by mts on topic Re: 16" vs. 24" barrel question
With the 16" barrel look at starting loads with 42 gr. H4895 with the .308 Sierra 175MK, at about 2400 fps. This will give about 95% case fill.

An alternate starting point is 45 gr. BL-C(2) at a little over 2400 fps.

There are other choices too, in Vithavouri and Alliant.

Ive got some 4x16-50mm japan optics scopes that I imported front focal plane mil-dot. I have all 3 of my armalite ar10s with these on them and with match ammo I'm getting 1/2 groups with them. turret knobs and side focus and japanese glass speaks for its self. Anyone interested I'm selling them for 1200.00 USD. Thats about half of what anyone else is asking for good FFP SCOPES.

My website should be up this week sometime soon.

I would say first and foremost that swapping an Armalite for a D.P.M.S. would be a huge mistake. You made the best choice when you bought an Armalite rifle...keep it.

If you want a 24 inch barrel, look at the Lilja drop-ins for the AR-10...a bit more money, but a great product... just keep in mind, your Armalite rifle has a 16 inch barrel, and therefore set up on a carbine length gas tube. If you switch to a 24 inch barrel, you'll need to get a rifle length gas tube, as well as a hand guard or rail system to match, and if your lower is set up with the collapsible style stock, then you will also need to convert the buffer and buffer spring to a rifle length set up...that can get expensive, man.

My best advise would be to simply adapt yourself to the reticle. Just shoot it, make note of the point of aim at which your rifle achieves the desired results at each range, record it in a data book, and use that data to reproduce the shot when needed.

IMHO a 24" barrel is too much. 20-21" seems to be the sweet spot with the locals I shoot with that stretch these out past 800yds. The 16" guys do just as well at 600yds. One guy is working on a 12" build, that should be interesting.

JReaper wrote: That's good information! I didn't know that or I would have gone with a 16" barrel instead of a 20".

I will have some information for you hopefully in a few weeks. My 10T carbine will be here this week and I ordered a Renfield Revolution 4x12x40 with the accu range rectical.

I plan to take it to the range and sight it in the first free weekend.
