A few questions later and he disappeared. I wasn't trying to root him out or anything, just curious how one stays in one unit like that so long, 24 years of that pace would seem to require superpowers!

I got out in 1972 and my serial number was US (SSN) then reupped and it was RA (SSN). Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but certainly my serial number was my SSN. Just saying.
BTW, good flushing. I had an ex-partner pos who claimed he was a veteran but I found out he was in ROTC and washed out of that. LOL.

There is no x index of serial number to SSN, it was just a conversion and applied to everyone, no need to x index...Ranchwagon wrote: I went in the Army after July 1, 1969; hence, the social being my serial number. By the way, I still know the number but won't put it out there for obvious reasons.
