Well the wife drug me along to a lunch this afternoon in San Antonio. It was a small gathering with only about 20 folks max. As we go into dining room I am greeted by Jim Porter: blog.al.com/spotnews/2013/06/birminghams..._porter_the_nra.html

If you are a bit older, you might note that Jim Porter's Dad was a past President of the NRA.

Jim is an Alabama native, lawyer and President of the NRA, wow I am impressed. I look around and take note there is one and only one guy there in cowboy hat, boots, jeans and realize its me, oh well so much for dressin up. Thats alright, I was on my John Deere 2 hrs ago. Well this crowd is the WHO's WHO of the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action). For the next 2 hours we talked about the upcoming election year 2014 and the efforts we need to to gain 6 seats in the Senate. The reality is they see our gun rights hanging by a thread, in fact the Dems are about 1 vote short of taking them away and they fear that Obama is going to sign off on the UN Small Arms Treaty. Now there is not enough votes in Congress to ratify the treaty, but are also not that far away if the tide does not break in our favor in 2014.

We were about the only folks there that did not fly in on a private jet. That said the jet time was donated by various companies here in Texas...can you say Oil. Private oil companies.

For some reason they want to do a interview with me and put me on the radio, maybe WOLD or something like that no doubt.

I am going to ask all of you to join the NRA if you are not a member, if you can join as a life member or upgrade to a life member. 34% of gun owners do not vote and we need them (YOU) to vote. If you value your guns and freedom to own them, join and vote. Ask your friends to also join the NRA and to vote...

Can you assure me the NRA sees the folly of the previous "bargains" they made, starting with the 1934 NFA all the way to the assault weapons ban? They have regularly compromised with politicians on my gun rights. I swore after the last round I would never give them another dime, why are they different now? In my view they are no better than any other DC lobbyist, DC scum in my book.
They are regularly telling me to support them then allowing my rights to be chiseled away a bit at a time in the name of making a deal. I'm supposed to support them because they are the best game in town? Prove it!!!!!!!!!

JT, I wish I could grant your wishes. But I am strictly a nobody, its my wife that is connected not me. All that said they are the biggest game in town and certainly the one with the most clout. I do not like compromise when it comes to the 2nd RKBA, but until the country changes compromise is the best we can do, anything else is a bridge too far.

I do not forsee a GOP win in the WH until 2024 or later. I also know and am very angry that the GOP is trying to "out left the left" and out liberal the liberals". I cast my stones and am pretty much on the outside of the GOP now. I challenged them and said we were fools to chase the liberals and try to best them. I can tell you for a fact that the GOP is not as strong on guns as they once were...[ IMO I beleive the GOP has been infiltrated by Dems and in fact I know of some that are Dems and they sit in very high places and they are shaping policy, I am not alone in my thinking]

I am going to tell ya'll straight up, we are losing and if we are unable to turn the corner in 2014 chances are you can stick a fork in it as we are done. As I stated Obama WILL sign the UN Small Arms Treaty. Hillary will also and she is favored to win already. Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Finestein and others who are well entrenched will take your guns!! That is not a threat, that is a FACT. The FBI KNOWS you have them, if you have bought a gun from a FFL dealer you are on record and ANYONE who thinks they have tossed the records like was agreed is smokin crack and not listening to the news or anything else.

If the Dems remain in office thru 2024 your guns are GONE. There is no instance where gun control and registration have EVER led to keeping them.

The NRA may not be perfect but I do not know of another game in town...

It all sounds like the "better of two evils" hype that got us where we are today. We've been played like a fiddle from both sides. A successful future can only be had without either the dems or the rino's. Until we stop compromising our beliefs for the sake of a deal we are done. I'm tired of hearing about who the only game in town is, if our founding fathers had been satisfied with that argument we wouldn't be a country.
It will be civil war if they come for the guns, so be it, I've been ready and remain ready to uphold the constitution, not DC's polluted rules and regulations.
I will focus my efforts on the state and local level, they are my only chance if the SHTF and the country's only chance to turn things around. I say back to a true Jeffersonian democracy! :usa:

NRA has been too soft, they even said they would support additional background checks and increased whatever for mental status. (A veteran once treated for PTSD? Sorry your SOL.

Only thing the NRA has is a lobby group with deep pockets.

I joined the NAGR National Association For Gun Rights. They don't lobby like the NAR, they organize their members so every time there is a whisper of gun control in DC they make the phones and fax machines go crazy. I get e-mails saying (bill, rider, proposal etc "XYZ" is up for vote, consideration, etc. at X time, These are the phone and fax numbers for your rep, gov etc, call from X to X time, sign the online fax petition at "link"

NRA is backing HB-1355 a bill that puts more people on the gun grab list in Florida.
More loss of rights for being "mentally-ill" as determined by your anti-gun medical community.

Right now, the NRA is not on my side.

This is no where near "just lunch"

While I am a Vet, I personally do not want a PTSD treated Vet to have a "free pass" to firearms ownership. Ever hear of Chris Kyle?

Myself and EVERYONE that even contributed to combat missions were "screened and treated" for PTSD, regardless if anyone was showing symptoms of it. So with that argument, a ton of vets would be disqualified.

So thats no good. :(

Tragic about Chris, I didn't know him and felt it in my own way. BUT, PTSD does not automatically make a person deserve loss of their rights. I know. I stay in contact with one young man because he will never consider getting any help out of fear it of what it would cost him.

I've been in and out of VA clinics for various reason and the questions they ask are skewed in such fashion it sounds like they are trying to give me PTSD, and they always ask if I own guns. Every damn time. I was in viera for a follow up cholesterol check just last month. "your ldls are looking better, I just have a few questions. do you have trouble sleeping? do you own or have access to guns?...." and so on. The people making this determination scare me, since every vet they tag for PTSD gets them more money for 'treatment'.

I'm not kidding, 2 semesters of psy does not make me an expert by any means, but it is however scattered throughout the textbooks that weapons=crazy. That only paranoid, irrational people would even want to own a gun. When part of the standard for mental illness includes an "interest in weapons/guns" as a condition for not being allowed to own them, how can a gun owner make it out intact?

I did not state that PTSD equals loss of gun ownership rights. I stated there should not be a free pass for those with or diagnosed with PTSD to own them.

Kyle was killed by an individual suffering from PTSD......plain and simple.
Those that are unstable, should be evaluated.

That may piss you off,......but if you are thinking logically, you know it's they way the current guidelines are supposed to operate anyway.
