crux wrote: I've owned, enjoyed, and advocated Armalite rifles for a long time. On the one hand I want to be sympathetic to Armalite's position, and the selling of arms to all those private individuals who can lawfully purchase them. On the other hand there is nothing magical about being a current or former LEO that should distinguish their standing in terms of 2nd amendment rights. This exemption in the NY bill is part of a political movement to place Military and LEO on a footing of legal rights above and apart from other private citizens. Good a folk as many of those LEO/.mil people might be, it is immoral to support this double standard.
This is a critical time to stand up for civilian firearms ownership, and politicians are trying to buy off portions of the population for support of general reduction of civilian access to arms including protections for "hunting" weapons and protections for LEOs etc. I don't support the harassment companies have been receiving, but I also think the principled response here, especially in the anti-rights climate, is to support the lawful gun owning public even if it means not selling to a hand full of persons given "special rights" by their state. Equal rights has to mean equal rights. I'd like to see them support that fundamental American principle.
End game: The end game here has NOTHING to do with protecting children, people or anything else. The singular purpose to confiscate all weapons and I MEAN ALL made after 1900 AND to put gun manufacturers out of business except those who are direct suppliers to the Federal govt. In order to accomplish this it has to be taken is bite size pieces, gathering the data enroute the objective. Start with 100% background checks for ALL gun movement. Want to give your son, granddads old shotgun, background check. Background check provides the database telling the feds you have a gun, then up the ante to make, model, serial number, etc. Now you have defacto gun registration by default (feds do NOT throw away records). Now you can begin confiscation first thru the IRS-taxes on the guns you own, federal insurance requirements and making the ability to own a gun expensive and costly to all but a few. At that point in time you can come and get them
Armalite: They have a singular goal and that is to make money (NEVER forget this). We all hope they have the leadership on board that makes the right decisions to make money and stay in business. I feel for them, I am a capitalist, own a business now and my singular goal is to make money or I cannot stay in business. The very best thing WE can do to support is to buy their products directly from them and most of all to insure the RKBA our 2nd Amendment "shall NOT be infringed".
It's kinda like boiling frogs.
If you start with a rolling boil and throw the frog in.
It jumps right out.
But if you put the frog in and then turn up the heat.
One well cooked frog.
