Not sure that I can help here. I haven't had the need to take mine off, so I've never looked into it. If I were to guess, you'll probably have to either wait for RRA to come out with their wrench, or have a wrench built.

If I am not mistaken, and MSH will correct me if I am....
To take that off you need a "Strap Wrench" then you can get at the barrel nut....it should un-screw.
Is that thing steel or aluminum

I think it is aluminum. I am pretty new to this, but I was under the impression I needed to hold the nut while breaking loose the float tube with a strap wrench.

BMS your on it. Pull your gas system it slides off with the tube in place. Get you one of those Ridged strap wrenches that has a 2" strap on it and the thing may come off in one pc.
If I don't get to stupid with posting a picture again I will show my wrench after while.MSH

I went out to look for a 2" strap wrench yesterday and had no luck. I may have to order one. That is one mean looking pipe wrench in that picture. I believe I may have one of those.

If you wait I'll post a pic of one you can make yourself. I took about a 3 foot piece of 2X4 and used a hole saw to cut a round hole right in the center about 2" in diameter. I then ran it through the table saw and ripped it length wise. You end up with 2, 2"x2" with a 1" cresent out of each piece. Line the cresents with some leather (I used some tacky grip spray stuff from my shooting supplies) and clamp the contraption over the tube. Twist and it's off.

I made that for end from an AR10 barrel nut like the one there next to it. I got some high temp, high strength epoxy and glued some 2" ID carbon fiber tube to it to make the forend. I glued it, set it up on the upper with the barrel and then indexed it so I could mount the M14 front sling swivel to it.

That Creedmore Rifle Grip comes in handy to keep things from slipping.

Here's a picture of an AR-15 receiver extension on an AR10 lower. It uses the AR10 buffer spring and a buffer from heavybuffers.com. That's a regular old AR-15 stock setup on there. This way the tube don't stick out the back
