I bought a Osprey 8-40X for my LR308 Varmint, because it was all I could afford after buying a $1200 rifle.
When out west hunting, I was seeing a lot of haze in the scope, at long ranges, and wrote it off as a cheap scope.
When a friend offered to let me shoot his Rem.700 with a Nightforce scope on it.
I was seeing the same haze through the nightforce.
So why spend $1200 for a scope?
No we did not start to get mirage till about noon,
I think it was in the air.
It looked clear by eye, but was hazy when you magnified it 20X plus
They had one of the wettest springs in years out there, do not know if that caused it??
