Favorite Rifle Scope?

Well I am going to jump in here again and agree with some of what is being said. I know that the optic lenses "are made" over seas by different companies. The guy I know that works for Shepard was telling me about all the different places that the glass comes from. They get theirs from the same company that Leupold and Ziess get theirs, so the glass is all imported, why, I guess they make it better than us. But as for the rest, well, you have to look at the company, Leupold and Shepard, as I am sure NightForce all make the rest of the components for their scopes. Oh I forgot to mention Aimpoint, they are made out of the country, besides top quality they are all imported.
I still say that you should check out Shepard scopes, if you look at the catalog and read the statements you will find that they have one for the M-1A, and have the charts for the .308s as far as which scope better fits the purpose being used for.........Like MSH said, the right tool for the job...
I almost forgot something I read once, and have heard, spend as least half of what your weapon costs if not more to full on optics. If you have a quality gun, put quality glass on it.
Just my opinion of course.........and besides I learned that lesson the hardway.....

There are two American made scopes I think, Premier and US Optics. I don't know
where they buy there glass but it is probably Euro. USO used to grind their own, I have
been told they no longer do. Leupold is chinese for the most part, assembled here. Night
Force is built overseas, QC'd here. For the money I believe vortex and wonder optics are
the better buys out there. Leupold is way over priced for what you are getting these days.
It is good to here they are allowing discounting again. They have been price fixing for
several years.
I sent my USO 1.8x10 in for the lit reticle. It was a ten + year old scope. They got back
to me and said they didn't want to fix it. I asked why of coarse and They said they didn't
like the old design and would rather just build me a new scope. The next thing out of
his mouth was, "what do you want on it?" . So this is what I now have

They made it with a new style reticle that ranges in moa, the turrets are moa, It has the
erek knob for elevation. All at no charge. It's sitting on my AR15 for now but will wind
up back on the 10 next summer. So yea it's a one time expense that hurts but well worth
it in the long run.

Some of Nightforce's models are fully built here in Idaho.

Built in Idaho or assembled? I have seen many posts that say none of the new ones
carry a made in America label. Same as leupold.

That is a Nightforce. It's not mine, but mine look like it.

I was trying to make a point that some Nightforce's are "Made in the USA". Anymore I'm not sure you can say anything is 100% Made in USA of any product.

It is interesting to note that most scopes have excellent glass and most people won't be able to tell any difference between them when they only shoot to 100 yards. For most people a $300 scope works great. The top tier scopes offer better construction, more reliability, repeatability, etc. USO, Premier, S&B, Nightforce, etc. are for people who want to be "serious" about long range shooting. These scopes offer a lot more than just clear, bright glass.

I started out with a SWFA Super Sniper. This was a great scope for the money and I learned a lot using it. When I got to the point where I wanted to go to the "next level" that's when I invested in a better scope. I'd still buy a Super Sniper, but the top tier scopes offer soooooo much more and my shooting did improve when I jumped up to the Nightforce.

And I'm not sure what this means.... Bit my wife opened it a couple of weeks ago and from the additude, I suspect it might have been made in Iran?

Edge, that is still a dam nice scope, there are so many "top end" scopes to choose from. I know the guy I talked to that does work for shepard scopes was telling me about the companies that make all the high end glass for the top scopes. He told me about one company that will fly the flag of the company's country that they are making for that day, so I guess that is something, not really relevant but interesting. I would have to agree though, it is hard to say any more "what" is actually made here. I know that video I posted about Leupold's factory was cool, it looked like most of the stuff they make there as I am sure alot of other companies are the same. I hear that the Swiss make about the best glass, not surprising though, they have always made good watches............LOL
Z.........man every time you show a picture of that rifle of yours, I have to wipe off my key board....DROOLING EXTREME...LOL. I still envy you on that thing, if I ever get over your way, how about letting hold it....LOL maybe shoot it once....(dreaming). The scope you shown, I am not to familiar with that one, but that is not saying a hell of a lot, I learn something new every day.....
On that watermelon...........it's an ALIEN... SHOOT IT!!!!
make it go SPLAT.....hey I like to shoot fruit...makes a real mess...hehehhehe.
Later all.

Yeah, too bad we couldn't keep the melon, and we darned sure weren't going to eat it. It was like rubber inside. Weird.

Frustration with the AR10. The ShootShed won't be insulated till saturday now. Lots of things interfereing with completion, but by sunday we should be able to continue proveing the AR. Daytime temps hanging in the teens and subzero nights. We'll set up the propane blower while we're insulating tomorrow.
Loads are ready for the Wilson and I'm anxious to get back to very small 20 round groups. The 500 yarder will be problematic with temps being what they are and its too late to build the second ShootShed this year.
I intend to continue with the impact coating with hBN and posting results in our various calibers. Each rifle in the armoury will go through a barrel treatment.
