I've been using RCBS's original case lube that I bought in the late 70's. It's quite thick & sticky and the only thing I've found that cleans it off is toluene. That said, it works great! I'm sizing military range pick-up Lake City brass, (machine gun fodder) with out issue on an RCBS junior press (no compound leverage) with this lube. I understand that RCBS's case lube II is water soluble. Does any body know if it works as well as their original? Also, has anybody used Redding's case lube, the one they sell for pad use? I like my original RCBS lube and actually leave a film of it on my cases to ease extraction like MSH suggested for the AR-10s, so I'd like to duplicate it if I could. I can see where STP should work but my pad is already saturated with the RCBS lube so I'd like to find something compatible. Maybe some of my fellow old farts can answer this for me.
I have had extremely bad results with one shot. I have a dillon 550b and would love it if it actiually worked. I have friends who love it, one even tried to show me how to use it but that didn't even work. He was shocked as well. I blame it on my small base dies but I'm not sure.
I use camshaft lubricant (a heavy red oil) I get from NAPA auto parts stores on a RCBS lube pad. It takes half the effort that the old RCBS lube does. And I don't have to remove multiple stuck cases like with One Shot.
I now have on hand some Imperial die wax which I will try with my next loading session. If it works as well as people say, I'll probably use it in place of the cam lube. But then people say good stuff about the One Shot. :S
Make up some imperial sizing wax that does good. 70% wax and 30% STP or in that area on the mix, But heat it to a melt outside. Dad made the mistake of doing it on the stove the first time. Then pour it in a snuff can or something. Cut you a new foam pad to change to the STP thats easy also. Wet an old sock with STP and use that a little goes a long ways on these cases. I used the RCBS stuff and every other thing out there and there is nothing as good as the STP and its cheap. But dont use to much of it.MSH
