Some guys use them for pest and varmit control with suppressed rifles in places where loud noises upset cranky neighbors, particularly at night when coyotes like to visit the chickens and the kids are sleeping. I use them just becuase it makes my suppressed .308 sound like a nail gun, and I get a kick out of it-but Lapua subsonics are about 54 bucks per 20 rounds, so I want to make my own and pocket the loot. In researching this, I've found a lot of posts on other forums from guys who are passing along second or even third hand knowledge, in some cases they haven't actually tried it. I want to put some data out there that I can back up with personal experience via trial and error so guys who want such data will have a good starting point.
LOL for sure...My buddy Jim who has almost 2 acres in a large neighborhood and the squirrels are a major nuisance. Jim had finally had enough of the destruction in and out of his home. But the sound of a .22 short brought on major complaints from the neighbors. Jim got his Fed lic for a can, ordered up a Ruger 10/22 bull bbl and picked up a brick of .22 subsonic...that was about 3 years ago and a LOT of dead squirrels later. He mostly shoots from inside the house and as yet not a neighbor has detected he is killing squirrels with a vengeance.
