That is true, as far as it goes. But the situation is much more complex.

Corporations are owned by stock holders, and they exist to make a profit for the stockholders. Some, like ATT, are huge and have tentacles everywhere. Others, like Armalite, are not so big, but each exists to make a profit for the company _*AND*_ their shareholders. To that end they employ workers. No supervisor who even pretends to be competent ever fired a good worker and replaced him with an idiot. So shareholders expect good return for their investment, and workers who don't rock the boat and do a good job can expect continued employment and perks (vacation, retirement package, insurance etc).

Corporations such as ATT have legal and PR staff, and they have lobbyists whose job it is to make sure that market conditions improve or remain favorable for their business. Are you still with me?

If you have any sort of annuity or retirement package it is highly likely that your portfolio (or your mutual fund) is invested in these corporations! Do you really want to drive them broke? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Carlin's rant was misdirected at best, disingenuous at worst. This "Rise Workers" stuff does not sound like free market capitalism to me. When I was in college we had another name for it.

George Carlin was outed as a card carrying commie straight off the hippie commune ages ago. I used to look forward to his shows because I found him funny, but like everyone else in his business, I tune out the political ranting as I don't take advice from clowns, no-matter how funny they may be. Some of it I can get a chuckle out of, partly because I do not take myself so seriously that I can't handle a good jab, and partly because I'm laughing AT HIM for not getting it.
I've got a pretty good impression 'ol george was doing better than minimum wage, exploited every tax shield his accountant could find, and capitalized as much as he could on his trade. I could and do respect this, It's just good sense. The insult is the elitist grind that squeezing a profit was okay when he did it, but everyone else was evil for pursuing success, and exploiting us pitiful pee-ons in the process.
The evil-world-owning-corporate-empire pays my wage, George Carlin never did. What he did do was expect to be paid and receive protection for his intellectual property, at retail price. Ultimately benefiting from the whorish financial exchange he wasted too much breath railing against.

still busted a gut laughing because he really could be funny.... some of the time.

The only issue that George Carlin joked about many years ago which I disagree with is the subject of politicians because they’re the true 1%ers. They are legally allowed insider trading information from the Federal Reserve and other life time professional benefits second–to-none after only one term served. Our politicians ignore enforcing illegal immigration laws that allow industries to offer lower wages across the board because the politicians make huge stock market profits from cheaper labor and to kill two birds with one stone, it’s easier to socialize poverty in general.

I work for "The Largest Retailer" in the world...and they treat the workers like Crap....it's a job ....but how far do you go....I don't expect anyone to support me...so I don't belong to them...I work hard for my money and hurt every morning when I get home...How is that Politically Correct...because we are The Workers...
With Out us...there is no "Management"....What I meant is what Carlin was saying...is that, that is what "They" want....take what we give you for your "Blood, Sweat and Pain" and be happy with it....It all comes down to control and exploitation of the "Working Force"....Do AS YOU ARE TOLD....WITH OUT QUESTION.
Not acceptable..This is America and this country was Forged with the Blood of the Workers...I have worked all my life...allways paid my taxes...and tried to live a life according to the law of God and Man....and those in the "Higher UP" seem to want to take more from us...and give it to themselves and those who don't deserve it....
This is just my Opinion...and matters Not...as far as the Upper is concerned...

BMS, I'm with you, I've worked in manufacturing for over 40 years, first 18yrs. as a worker, and it was ROBOT work 10-12hrs. a day + weekends for a little above min. wage never could buy anything nice like guns and such, or pay the bills, just tried to keep from going under! It got me a bad back and wore me out. Then actually did move up into management for the next 5yrs, wow, now I have the power and money, little did I know, now I was the P)1($! found out you really don't have any choice their either, still had a BOSS to report to and he wanted to hear what was the norm, sure everyone's happy and makes more money than they know what to do with !production is up and were pushing for more. I had problems with this, so did't go over to good actually, was told where to bank and what kind of car to buy, had to fire some of the BEST people(and I personally apologized to each and every one), can't have any waves just robots do as your told! My morals got the best of me, just could't take it any more, if this is what it takes to be a winner, I don't want any part of it, I rather be a honest hard working robot! well found out I was the type and had the attitude that I should't be working for anyone. If these types of people and corps. can make it maybe I should just work for myself! That's what I have been doing for the past 10yrs. and it's really no different here,still doing robot work answering to the larger corps on there schedule, and not only them, but now I also have the government involved + all the political issues city and state, But at least for the most part, I do have a choice, make what I want to when I want to, and if it goes against my morals, I guess I'll only have myself to answer too. Latest job went to China as they can't produce the quality parts that I make, Hum wonder why? (they don't care) Of course not for the price they wanted but, I'm not running or working in a sweat shop anymore. I guess all in all, at least we have the "PRIDE" join it!

I'm sorry about your job. The good news is that you're free to go elsewhere. But I know that isn't always possible. Some years ago I worked for a sawed-off Brit scheisskopf who thought all Americans were lazy and stupid, and wasn't afraid to say it. The fact that the runt came to work at 10:30 most days, and couldn't stand up after 7:00 PM did not affect his narcissistic personality disorder at all. I had two kids under 10, and couldn't find another job to save my life. Fortunately he advanced into alcoholic dementia and was ridden off campus on a rail for abusing female staff. Otherwise somebody would have killed him.

it is what is...and yes I could go else were, but as you said...(especially these days) it is not so possible...
When you get into a job far enough, even if you hate it, you make the hourly wadge that is hard to equal going else were..again...(especially these days)
that is the True "like shooting yourself in the foot" as you so quaintly put it..
I can not tell by your pic how old you are...but I know AKia is in my age group..
When on the "Working side" of the Fence...you learn that you are just a "body" doing a Job...that is working for a Corporation such as the one I work for...
Things were alot different back in the day,,,god I sound "old" but I an getting there...in my Youth...I was taught...Work hard and show Determination, Dedication, and "Honor"...that is so not true now adays....No Offense meant to anyone..but it is the Norm now..Do what you have to and kiss who's ever @ss to get ahead...My Honor and Pride will not allow me that Luxury, I could not look myself in the mirror again....I will not step on good people to advance myself either...as also the practice in the work place....
My Honor and passions are my "Strength" as well as my own undoing....I guess that just shows my age....
Again...it was not so much about Carlin but more to what he said... That I found him a man worth listening to....again...shows my age....
It comes down to the Times....and things are going to get worst...much worst..before all is said and done....
I guess it depends on "which" side of the fence you stand on as to your resolve..
and For the record....I also went to College...and am quite Educated...but chose a Different path in life...Se la via...Such is Life...

Thanks my Friend for Chiming in....
It is nice to know that there are others out there that understand the concept of "Working Like A Dog" and being treated like one to boot....
I have the utmost respect for anyone who has "worked" for a living and eventually set out on their own to make a better life...I know it isn't easy...
I have worked for some like that, that were no better than the Corporations.....that is why I don't work for them anymore....I believe that most people want a simple life...go to work and be appreciated, do a good job, to the best of your abilities, earn a fair wadge and go home and live your life....it seems any more....it doesn't matter how much of a "Good Job" you do...they want more and for you to pick up the slack for those that "Don't care" and are there for the "Paycheck" and that is it...so you work twice as hard but earn no more....while they kiss but and laugh because you have to do their work..
As I said...I respect those that can make their own way....but as you stated my friend...and that my wife and I have tried to "Teach" her oldest...short of a 2X4... :laugh: :evil: , It seems that No Matter What you do....There is always someone to "Answer" too....someday he will learn this....I hope... :pinch: :whistle:
