Average salary of a paid fireman in the US is just over 42,000 per year.

343 PAID firemen and paramedics died at the World Trade Center all running TO the emergency.

60 police officers died at the World Trade Center - all running TO the emergency.

I don't see any statistics on managers or executive types from nearby companies that were killed running TO or INTO the World Trade Center to rescue people.

A one bedroom apartment in the center of NYC is around $2,750 per month and everything else is relatively rated.

Still, the average salary of a paid firefighter in the United States is under 43,000.00 per year which by the way, is where you quoted the death rate from - nationally - but financially, you only used NYC.

As for the death rate, I'm glad to see it's low. That means our lives are getting safer and perhaps people are FINALLY learning a bit more from Fire Prevention efforts nationally as well as firemen's jobs becoming safer through equipment improvements, training and techniques.

We are still primarily ALL volunteer where I'm from and I'm a 4th Generation LIFETIME fire-fighter. Anyone can yak but firemen are the ones who step up and move in however, for the record, I was also infantry and a State Trooper so moving forward is WELL in my blood.

PAID Firefighter general stats.

For the record, the death rates for volunteers, nationally, is higher than paid however you won't find many volunteers that really care. We are ALL firemen and when the need arises, we all stand together and do whatever needs doing.

Every day, every night, any time. Proudly.
