My brother bought a 300 blackout and suppressor and the more and more I have been researching it for the 50-yard pest control shots we plan to use it for the .458 SOCOM has much much much more energy subsonic and suppressed.

+1 for RRA ... I was going to buy one of their left handed rifles until Maryland decided to ban all AR's. :(

IMHO, with the popularity of the 500 S&W bringing a huge selection of bullets to market, all advantages the .458 once held over 50 Beowulf have been negated.

You could be right.

Ammo is a strange creature. I can remember the days when if it was not a 30 06 you had nothing, then .243 swept the deer hunting down in S Texas and guys were giving away the big guns for the .243 we have seen lots come and go, trends begin and end. Now we seem to be living in what I call the 'bullet du jour' or 'end all, be all, solve all' (actually think that was called the 6.8 SPC). Now we have a rd called xxx SOCOM.

I learned so many years ago I forgot, but it raises its head almost every day in conversation: follow the money. Is this just another case of follow the money. 6.8 certainly was. The forums, magazines and internet is full of "used by ___________ (fill in your Spec Opns unit of choice). If somehow you can tie your ___________ to SOCOM a lot of folks who don't know any better will run buy it. And there is always the chance that SOCOM will place an order for it and they only need to buy 1 and you can plaster that all over your ads on the internet,

Very reasonable notion.......... Too much Hollywood now...... So guns is butt ugly as a Glock sell like hotcakes....

I was shooting for458's in my mid 20s.. and I have three rifles of that caliber.. so I do have a soft spot for them... I never imagined they would make an Arnold Schwarzenegger/Rambo version of it.... so I have to think it's pretty cool.....
