I've been thinking about this a while, and I don't think it matters. While I'd love to be able to use waffle mags the net effect would be zero.
Our "B" 10s are still supported, and that's good, but when I buy a gun I fully expect that it will outlive the manufacturer. My Uzi and M-1 carbine are no less useful for having been made by companies that effectively no longer exist.
Just make sure you've got plenty of mags and expendables.
Charlie (would do that anyway)
I hear what you are saying...I would not "Trade" my B for anything...
but I am curious if they are going to make an upgraded insert to accommodate the new design..over the "original"....might be worth a look....I have weighed a "P-mag .308" over our "original" mags....not much difference...that is why "I" Dropped this subject after examining it...I understand why they went this route...I am just curious as to the Political aspect of it...those of us that have the Originals...compared to the "new Version"...things are getting interesting in the world..that is why I ask...I "personally" want every advantage...I can have..Not to sound "Paranoid" but "Prepared"....
My philosophical out look is somewhat "Weird"...but Warranted... How many Mags can you Own...some say Not enough...I say...what you can carry....it is all personal preference....I think...but again..
Not Hashing..just discussing...and Evaluating...

Again...I was not hashing on mark's decision...but very surprised....the Gen 2 mags have been the Icon of the rifle...and a downfall to some...but it is what set them apart from the Copies....
I sent ArmaLite a note...got a Reply to my email...if they give me the OK...I will post up their response....
It is very "Interesting"...on how this has happened...but as I said...expected...to a point...
Hell rather than the upgrade...I may just have to buy a "AR-10 A"....just to have the complete system...
You can't own to many ArmaLites in my Opinion...
On the thinking out loud...Guilty as well....

Another thought, if people were to transition over to the 10A and start selling off gen2 mags cheap? maybe a chance to stock up?
Also, the impact this will have on the value of 10Bs?
I just don't know. would like to read armalites response though.
I understand why Armalite has done this. I personally think the GenII Armalite mags and their M14 predessesors are superior to the SR25 type. You see a lot of forum postings over the years, maybe even lately, saying "expensive..." yadda yadda yadda. You can order GenII mags for $35 a pc., one at a time, from Armalite, in stock, right now. Gunbroker.com has them "New" at $26 a pop (perhaps a prelude to a price drop cause of this recent announcement from Armalite?) I know there were times in the past when they couldn't keep up making them and there was overdemand and price gouging... but this is over. They are just as easy to get as any other 308semi magazine, and not much more expesive. You can get them $30 in packs of five, or even cheaper for packs of ten (directly applicable to those who want a lot of mags, but are or have been upset at how "expesive" they are...) for a long time now, before this "A" model announcement. I, for one, was attracted by the fact that no other company wasted their time (there is some small exeption to this I know, but generally speaking) even making the GENII and all you get is Armalite produced, high quality, warranty covered magazines that you can rely on to work like they are supposed to. This mag, that mag, they all fit, some cheap, some china made, some USA made, some look this way, or that way... there are good points and bad points to "open source" industry compatibility in things like magazines. I like knowing exactly what I got. Since I am just now getting my AR10 (after years of research, drooling, and counting pennies to get here), my ammo, and magazines... I dont' think I would have chosen the new A model over the B, and I'm sure everyone can agree that having the choice is a better situation to be in. And I do hope the GenII mags get dumped on the market and I can get them cheap. Of course if the Noveske rifle I'm getting was a A model... I would be talking about liking the "waffle" mag choices I have... LOL.

That's part of my dilemma. I like waffle mags!
I used to have a Vector AK (I sold it to buy the 10BF), and I got a couple of 30 rd Belgian waffle mags for it. My ex used to make Belgian waffles, so there was some synchronicity going on there* .
I liked the waffle mags a lot, but was not so fond of the 7.62X39 cartridge (we're deer hunters). So the AK is history.
Like I said, I fully expect my gun to outlast the manufacturer, and it comes down this: What lasts longer; steel or polymer? I'm putting my money on the steel mag.
I've made my decision.

Part of the response I got from TR...
"Yes, sometime in the future we will be offering the AR-10A upper and lower receiver, bolt stop, and mag catch for those wanting to change their rifles to this configuration. This may be up to a year before we offer these as we’ll be trying to establish the rifles first."
also this...on my inquiry about the upper...
"I’ve given the same answer numerous times on the AR-10 & 180B and Industry side about needing all 4 components to complete the AR-10A change. I also included the Tech Note 101 from our website explaining the differences in the AR-10B and AR-10A. This information should already be known. Yes the upper is different as well."
So for the most part....the rifle has under gone a complete change...so our ( uppers will not work with the new lowers....as stated above...upper lower bolt stop mag catch...are is what is needed for the change...using existing internal parts.....
Might just have to buy a New Rifle....
Can never have to many....
