This is my CAR 10XH heavy buffer next to a standard H buffer from an AR15 for comparison. I apologize for the poor cellphone pic, but it's what i've got.
This buffer is needed to use an AR15 stock on an AR10, such as the UBR. The important part here is how short it is, plus the extra weight is a BIG help for reliable operation. The carbine stock that Armalite uses for the AR10 employs a receiver extension that is longer than that used on an AR15. This is because the .308 bolt carrier has more travel for the bigger cartridge.
I've seen folks use try to use stocks like the sopmod, emod or ctr on the Armalite extension, and can not fully collapse because the rear of the stock in closed off. on other stocks, when fully collapsed the extension protrudes out the rear of the stock a tich over 3/8 of an inch to guesstimate. The remedy for this is to switch to an AR15 tube and enjoy the increased stock options, and the best way to do this is with a heavybuffer.
I'm not affiliated with heavybuffers, it is just a product that I purchased, made use of, and can vouch for. surprised he has not chimed in on this forum yet.
just keep in mind the ar10T has a very tight fit,, mine has zero movement between the upper and lower,,even my wilson combat 6.8 recon has some play,,and to add an adjustable butt stock can really add to the slop if you buy a cheap set up. just saying,,
