Stock Length was created by Todeemax
Hi all
Don't know if this has been addressed before, or too basic.
Question is on stock length. I have kinda short arms, not that you would notice. When I shoot with bipod, no problem being comfortable, but when carrying the ar10, and shooting from the standing position, it is a bit of a stretch. I guess I need to get an adjustable stock. Is there any formula, or measurement for proper fit?

No particular measurement that I'm aware of. With a fixed stock rifle, move your non-firing hand forward or back on the forend 'til you find a comfortable, stable position.

Thanks Lebben, I do that naturally, and works, but never seem to be comfortable. . It's been a few years since I've been shooting, so I am getting reacclimated. I think I will sample some collapsible stocks. Might be the ticket after all of these years. Ha

The "rule of thumb" for length of pull is to place the rifle/shotgun on your shooting forearm (arm extended with palm up), place the finger on the trigger and see if the butt snuggles against the upright portion of the upper arm just above the elbow. The butt should lay in the crook of the arm just touching the upper arm. This is considered your personal "length of pull". Try this out and see if it helps B)

Hi Akai

I think you've got something there. I am an inch and a half short on the thumb scale. Hmmmm, that's what she said. Ha.... I guess that would explain the discomfort. I haven't had a chance to do too much research yet on collapsible stocks, but any recommendations from this forum would be great. There are a few places in the Houston area to check out some stocks in person. Man, I'm thinking this is gonna change my life.
Thanks for the tip.

Thanks. I have a lot more options now.. Just for the record, you can't tell my arms are too short.

You didn't say which AR-10 you have, but if it's an A4 then eye relief isn't an issue. Check out the Magpul adjustable AR-10 stocks, but (as a personal note) I'd stay away from any that say "adds weight to the butt of the gun". There is such a thing as too much weight, even if it's in the butt.

Charlie (the Magpul PRS-2 makes the HK-91 unbelievably heavy!)

Hi Charlie
Attached is my AR10T. I got her last week, and she is right at 13 pounds. With my short arms, I am trying to get a quality stock with a 13 inch LOP. I have been doing a lot of research, but not complete yet. I definitely don't want too much weight.

thanks
Ernie Dee
