Stainless steel barrel that was special ordered from the factory, when you could still do that. I bought it second hand from the same gun shop that I just bought the Super SASS. The 16" ss barrel gun had about 80 rounds through it and I put a Swarovski scope on it. My best group was 1 5/16th's at 200 yards. Yes, 1 5/16ths at 200 yards. It was also a 5 shot group. It DID NOT have the free float hand guard. My only screw up was letting a friend talk me in to selling it to him. DOH! Find a quality gun that is as new or has been broken in correctly and you will not regret it. If you are willing to be patient contact Don B. at

Still waiting for that happy ending. Did ya get one yet??
To add to that question you had for that scope, don't waste your $. Anything that boasts being a sniper scope with that much crap put next to the reticles with 85 knobs and goes from 3-25x for less that $700 is a pain in the a$$ waiting to happen. For the AR10 I would stick with a simple z-plex reiticle hunting scope. 3-9 or 3.5-10. (Zeiss, Leupold, Swarovski) You'll be using it to reach out and touch someone from a decent range with unknown light conditions. Those three brands will give you good visibility in low light. Save the tactical for the AR15. I've got the SW M&P15 like you. I'm running a cheap red dot scope on it for now with pop-up iron sites for a backup. It's totally up to you, but I wouldn't spec out both guns for the same role. Here's a pic of my BAR10 and AR15.

I will have to agree on the optics....I bought two really cool looking scopes when I first got my rifle..(cheap)..it ATE them...rattled them apart so bad that I was a 1.5' off of MOA and that was after using a bore siter on it just before shooting...so definitely go with some good optics...Hebs you forgot one...NIKON, that one I am looking at is about 700 and is a 8x32x50, should do the trick...of course we all would love a Mark 4 or Nightforce or what the hell, a US OPTICS...but lets be real....and if you are looking for a quality Red Dot to mount on it....check out the Burris XTS-135...it is half the cost of an AimPoint and will hold up to the AR-10...I know, I did a full review and range report on it....

Yeah, I kinda left the Nikon out on purpose. I just wasn't as impressed with it in low light conditions. My friend has about 35 custom rifles and he has Nikon, Swarovski, Leupold, Zeiss, Schmidt&Bender scopes on them. I looked through each brand scope during dusk, specifically into shadows of trees and underlying brush as I was looking for a nice deer rifle scope for my 30/06. While they are all very similar, (not in price of course) I thought the Zeiss Conquest performed the best. Nikon does make some nice scopes, I just thought it was below the level of the other 3 I mentioned when it came to low light visibility.
I did talk with tacklebarry's contact, he said tacklebarry got the once in a life time deal of the century, & my odds of seeing another like it are just slightly better than what I'd get playing the mega millions. :S
I started hitting some of the local pawn shops this weekend and found a 10A4CF for $1200, I didn't pick it up, I was thinking I might like the 20" barrel over the 16". I was able to find "new in box" 3x-9x x40 Liupold Z and a 4x-14x 40 Liupold for $250-$280, both covered by about a 1/2" of dust. At that price I was a little concerned that they really weren't new. I think I might have to go back and look for scratches or evidence of mounting rings.
I've seen some already expired, nice deals on Guns America, the purchase process struck me as less than secure for the buyer. Anyone have any experience with guns america site?
might be able to get you in to an AR-10T, 20" barrel. It is the newest version with the forward assist. It has 75 rounds through it and I have shot a 3/8ths" group at 100 yards. The deal will not be as good as the Super SASS, as it wasn't as good for me, but I won't charge you anymore than I have in it. It has a Swarovski 6x18x50 mounted on it. Again, at my cost. Keep in mind, I do a lot of business with this gun shop as I am a retired cop and professional firearms instructor. I am just throwing out ideas. Of course, if we worked out a deal I would have to ship to your FFL.
