Siscowet wrote: Hard work, I call my woodpile my hillbilly aerobics! All red oak. Ten cords a year for the outdoor boiler, and four for the fireplace.

A LOT of cotton wood over here, very tough splitting through knots and branches, stingking suff sort of just shreds off, have to pull it apart after running it through the splitter.
If fortunate neough, finding a shelter belt of chinese elm, standing dry, cut into firewood lengths, usually splits with one good chop with a splittingk mall.
Best is ASH wood, split and dried, burns real hot and lasts a long time, even in a not so air tight stove.
Nice to have a wood fired boiler and hot water heat. :twothumbs:

Using the burner from the turkey deep fryer and an old cast iron, extra deep frying pan and a ladle, heats the garage real nicely, even with the windows open fur ventlashun. :busted: :rotfl:

I really shouldn't complain since I'm sitting here in central Mississippi while my family gets froze out in Iowa but..... Damn it's even getting cold down here! Forecast of 10 for a low tonight and then again on Monday. Highs are hardly getting to 40, they are not geared for this at all down here, glad I packed ALL my gear!
Damn this global warming

I know in the "Warmer Climates" tt water pipes goes unprotected, I hoping that no one has any freezeups. :S
I know I keep preaching about the volcanoes and global cooling, but, that is a fact.
It seems that there has been a lot ov volcanic activity all around the world, and cooling temps is a by product of the ash spewed into the stratosphere. It takes years for that ash to settle beck to earth, until it all gets back to the ground, the planit`LL be cooling down.
Get Your wood stove and a pile of wood to last for years because if We have two or three more like the one in Iceland, we`ll be in a ice age. :banghead: :cowboy: :sharkey:
