The berdan issue! They fly right out of the junky brass but my Radway and FN NATO stuff are not budging with the hydraulic decapper, it's gouge and pry and that gets slightly old after awhile. I'm just going to stock up on the correct primers and mess with it if the ammo supply ever shuts off.
On all my commercial brass the base of the case is getting distorted from extraction, this messes with measuring lengths in my gauges and in the trimming process, I'm trying to be very picky with what I put back in my baby, in-spec or to the used up tub they go! Resizing just doesn't seem to flatten it back out.
I'm thinking I better jump on the next batch of LC I see.
I've never reloaded Berdan primed cases. I know that someone (Lyman? RCBS?) makes a berdan decapping tool, but I don't know a source for berdan primers. Apparently there are methods of converting berdan primed brass you use boxer primers, but they're a little ... "labor intensive."
As for a deformed base, the only question I can think to ask is: Are you using a small-base die?
If you are, and it's not fixing the problem, then I have no idea.
I got one of those blister machines from RCBS, works Ok but not much better than an awl with a little modification. Both are better than water and primers flying all over with the hydraulic method!
I've been turned on to a couple sources for the primers here on the site, Sinclairs is one source. Tula seems to be the only maker for reloaders.
I'm only using FL dies, I was under the impression that if I got reliability with it then it would be easier on my brass over the SB, I'm a little concerned I won't gain much if I overwork the brass. Then again I'm working with a hodge podge of makers due to testing everything I could find for reliability in my rifle. I'm hoping to get close to a couple good combinations then buy a box lot of good brass for the real deal.

Consider getting a PRI adjustable gas block and shutting down the gas a little bit. That and POSSIBLY a heavier buffer will reduce the deformation of the rim.
Man I've got to get a bunch of stuff....... I have quite a bit of the basics though.....
I never needed more than a wooden dowel.... But never had total separation....
Need to get my RCBS stuff out..... My reloading gear has been boxed up.. Since the summer of 86...... Time flys..... I'm a born again gun nut...... I guess.....
