PAYING IT FORWARD:
My birthday falls on 25 April, usually during the week of the NRA annual convention. My wife is especially forgiving of my convention purchases since after all it’s my birthday. At the Foundation Banquet I was chatting to an old friend, neighbor and NRA Board of Directors Member, Lt. General Leroy Sisco who is CEO of the Military Warriors Support Foundation. A great organization that gives homes to severely disabled combat veterans. At his table sat 4 veterans who each would receive a home that evening. As retired military I introduced myself to each of them and made friends with Sgt. Mike Trado US Army (Ret.). We hit it off, talking about our military experiences both in and out of combat.

My wife and I already tired from many NRA activities decided to leave early…besides, even on my birthday my luck of having never won anything insured the Ruger AR 5.56 I was lusting after was not going to be mine. I decided to go to General Sisco’s table and give Mike all the tickets both my wife and I had purchased throughout the evening.
Half an hour later as we were driving I received a phone call from Mike. He tells me this it’s one of the best days of this life. He has a brand new home AND a brand new rifle, a Ruger AR 5.56! Mike later sent me a text that said this: “Don, those tickets meant the world to me, thank you, you made my night.”

The following night at the ILA silent auction I won a Ruger AR 5.56…paying it forward certainly paid off for two soldiers.
