My 23 year old son (and his 4 y/o son)is movingto Huntington Beach California from Illinois, where he will be doing research for Boeing as an electrical engineer.
He was planning to take his Ruger 22cal semi auto pistol, a mossberg 500 12 gauge, his AR 15 with 30 rd mags and an AR10 with 20 rd mags.
I told him I think he can't have the AR's with those mags.
Can anyone tell me what the laws are in California now for him taking these weapons?
No Armalite or many other makes of AR guns in California. Go to California D.O.J. for a full list of all A.R. makes that are banned in California.
That said, if the maker is not listed like
Stag arms, CMMG, Aero Precision and any others that are not on that list, you are O.K. However the gun must have a magazine that is fixed (like the bullet button). You can own high cap. mags, but you can not buy, sell, trade or put them in your firearms. Good thing to keep them away from the firearms and without ammo int them even at you home so they don't push the intent.
This is my help to you offered free of charge. For full listing of laws see link.
oag.ca.gov/firearms
You will then need to pay an attorney thousands to decifer the nonsense.

He will be working in Boeing's advanced weapons research program. Great job with a great company in a really crappy state.
My father was an engineer in that area for the old Honeywell, and my uncle the same for the Old North American Aviation( now part of Boeing). He should have a fascinating career.
