I was thinking about a possible idea for the future. It would be interesting to organize  :busted: a get together for this group sometime in the future. I am thinking the summer of 2014 maybe. I looked at the map, and noticed that Genesco Illinois, home of Armalite and Springfield Armory both, and Colona, Illinois, home of Rock River Arms, are all in or near the Quad Cities area. What better place for AR10, and .308 AR aficionados to have a get together, especially if there are some decent rifle ranges close by? Understanding not all of us would be able to make it, but with a little planning it could be a really good time. Some firearms manufacturers tours, some shooting and comparisons of our favorite rifle, what is not to like? Just food for thought guys.
Just remember jun 2014 is 70th anniversary of Normandy landings. Not many of our WWII vets around and able to travel very far so if we can find a way to honor them during any meeting it would be great.
Our family is planning a trip to France - wife's grandfather was at the Battle of the Bulge, my great uncle was KIA in '44, sister-in-law's dad smuggled Jews out of Belgium into England, and 15 y.o. nephew is nuts about WWII history.
I would do my best to make it. It isn't a full days drive for me and as well as an AR-10 I have a Springfield 1911 so it would be cool to see where they were born as well as meeting my AR-10 brothers.
I've heard of some large ranges in Ill., would I dare bring my AR to play with? They have some funky gun laws there.
Great idea :usa:
It's a long way from southern tip of Illinois ( we are farther south than most of the state of Ky down here), but with a tour of armalite and a little shooting time,I would do my best to fit it in. Just don't hold it against my wife when she pulls out her favorite ,an FNAR, not an Armalite!
Forgiven in advance on that FNAR. MLotzii, if it could be developed that the website benefited, so much the better.
Anything taught by some of the mrraley's LebbenB's 13fColt's, BMS's zfk55's, just to mention a few on this forum, I know I would learn a lot. We have time to do it right. Let's keep this discussion going. et1911rph, Sounds like a heck of a trip to honor your family's WW2 vets. My Father was one on the Pacific end.
It's gonna be a big money factor for me guys. Hell, I'm just hoping to be able to pay attention by next year nevermind for a plane ticket or driving out there.. Woof..
I'd love to be able to but we'll really have to see.
I don't think I caused any problems in Illinois or any of the "tween" states so it's POSSIBLE but I'd really have to play this one by ear...
